Overview The Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute and the Sections of Vascular Biology and Cardiovascular Medicine at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center are seeking to recruit new faculty members at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with an innovative research program in the area of cardiovascular sciences.

The focus of cardiovascular research is open and may be based on basic and translational approaches including using molecular, cell biology, genetics, physiology/pharmacology and computational approaches. Specific areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, myocardial dysfunction/heart failure, vascular disorders and thrombosis, cardio‑oncology, cardiometabolic kidney disease, and age‑related cardiovascular diseases. It is expected that the candidate will establish a vibrant and externally‑funded research program that trains PhD, MD, and MA students and post‑doctoral fellows.

The Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine is part of the Boston University Medical Campus and has 660 medical students and a similar number of graduate students actively engaged in the study of medicine and biomedical sciences. The Medical School is located in the South End of the city of Boston, one of the greatest areas for biomedical research in the world. With over 1,000 faculty members, the Medical School is one of the major biomedical research institutions in the United States having received more than $645 million in total research awards, with 67% of funding coming from the NIH in FY2023. Boston Medical Center (BMC) is a private, not‑for‑profit, academic medical center that is the principal teaching clinical affiliate of Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. BMC is the largest safety‑net hospital in New England and also a premier research institution. In FY2022, BMC was the 18th largest recipient of funding overall from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) among independent U.S. hospitals and the 2nd largest from NIH among safety‑net hospitals.

Position Qualifications Candidates must hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree. Successful applicants should have a demonstrated research record for their career stage including extramural funding.

Key Responsibilities Develop and lead an externally‑funded research program in cardiovascular sciences; collaborate with interdisciplinary teams at the Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute and the Department of Medicine; train and mentor PhD, MD, and MA students and post‑doctoral fellows; participate in service, outreach, and committee activities that advance translational research.
