Zurich North America is hiring an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director for our Philadelphia office in the East Region, focusing on Domestic Casualty business.
Job Overview This market‑facing role requires underwriting and analyzing new and renewal accounts in the Mid‑Atlantic region. You will be expected to be visible in the marketplace 25% of the time and to be in the office or market three days a week. The position offers a hybrid work schedule and relocation benefits for candidates moving to the territory.
Responsibilities
Underwrite, analyze, and generate new and renewal business.
Produce revenue within the Large Casualty, National Accounts division.
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws, regulations, and rating manual rules.
Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships in the Mid‑Atlantic Region.
Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.
Qualifications Executive Underwriter
High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years in underwriting or market‑facing area
or 10+ years in claims or underwriting support area
or a Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 3+ years in underwriting or market‑facing area
or a Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 8+ years in claims or underwriting support area
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience with time‑restrained quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience working in a team environment.
AVP, Underwriting Director
High School Diploma or equivalent and 7+ years in underwriting or market‑facing area
or 14+ years in claims or underwriting support area
or a Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 5+ years in underwriting or market‑facing area
or a Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 12+ years in claims or underwriting support area
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Microsoft Office experience.
Compensation and Benefits Salary range for this position is $78,100.00 – $169,100.00. Executive Underwriter range is $78,100.00 – $127,800.00 (10% short‑term incentive), while AVP, Underwriting Director range is $103,300.00 – $169,100.00 (15% short‑term incentive). Additional rewards may include merit increases. Zurich provides a total‑rewards package and encourages applicants to state salary expectations beyond the range, which will be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
