Executive Underwriter OR AVP, Underwriting Director – Large Casualty
Location: Philadelphia, PA (Hybrid – office 3 days each week, remote the rest of the time).
Schedule: Full‑time, Hybrid.
Zurich is currently recruiting an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director for the East Region Domestic Casualty team, based in the Philadelphia office.
As a member of our Underwriting Team you will fully apply and hone underwriting and marketing skills while underwriting and analyzing new and renewal accounts within the Mid‑Atlantic region. This market‑facing role requires visibility in the marketplace 25% of the time and you will work on a flexible schedule set in partnership with your manager.
Responsibilities
Underwrite, analyze, and generate new and renewal business.
Serve in a market‑facing role with production responsibilities within the Large Casualty, National Accounts division.
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws, regulations, and rating manual rules.
Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships in the Mid‑Atlantic Region.
Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.
Basic Qualifications Executive Underwriter
High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of underwriting or market‑facing experience; OR 10+ years of claims or underwriting support experience; OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ underwriting/market‑facing years; OR 8+ years of claims or underwriting support experience.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience working in a team environment.
AVP, Underwriting Director
High School Diploma or equivalent and 7+ years of underwriting or market‑facing experience; OR 14+ years of claims or underwriting support experience; OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5+ underwriting/market‑facing years; OR 12+ years of claims or underwriting support experience.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Additional leadership experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels)
Bachelor’s Degree.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient Microsoft Office experience.
Compensation Combined salary range:
$78,100.00 – $169,100.00
(Executive Underwriter:
$78,100.00 – $127,800.00 ; AVP/Underwriting Director:
$103,300.00 – $169,100.00 ). Short‑term incentive bonus eligibility ranges from 10% to 15% based on level.
