About The Role Thomson Reuters is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for the CoCounsel AI Assistant who will lead multiple significant projects, programs and business initiatives, demonstrating creativity and ingenuity. This role requires end‑to‑end technical solutions and solving complex ambiguous problems.

Responsibilities

Build user‑facing features which drive the CoCounsel chat application, and platform capabilities to enable partners across the company to reach customers.

Develop delightful application code, easy‑to‑use framework and component libraries, and push the team to be efficient, productive, and nimble in a fast‑moving field.

Bring deep expertise in backend engineering while considering frontend and platform implications, especially as evolving LLM capabilities (e.g., real‑time streaming) require coordinated changes across the stack.

Act as an IC leadership role, expecting technical expertise and excellent interpersonal and communication skills with peers and stakeholders.

Work collaboratively with colleagues up and down the technical stack.

Required Qualifications

At least five years professional software development experience. Formal computer science education is a plus but not required.

Experience in technical leadership such as mentoring other engineers, breaking features down into stories, and discussing implementations.

Deep expertise in back‑end technologies and architectures (Python, React, FastAPI, event‑driven systems, API design, real‑time communication such as websockets, RPC, or SSEs).

Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively, and a self‑starter mentality with quick learning and adaptability.

Proven ability to execute both tactical and strategic solutions.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

Experience with AWS/GCP, large language models, machine learning applications, metrics, and agentic systems.

Track record of utilizing the cutting edge of AI tooling and techniques.

Have strong opinions about the future of LLM‑driven application UX.

Compensation Base compensation range for eligible US locations: $116,900 – $217,100. This role may also be eligible for an annual bonus based on enterprise and individual performance.
