Why You Will Love This Job The Project Engineer – Alternator Simulation will focus on synchronous alternator simulation and validation for standby power generation. The role will develop expertise in islanded and paralleled power‑system analysis, alternator performance, and communication on power‑engineering practices.
Specific Responsibilities
Perform transient analysis of generator simulations to optimize sizing.
Develop and implement alternator diagnostic algorithms.
Provide model development and guidance for power‑system simulation in Simulink, SKM, and other toolsets.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to validate first‑article production machines.
Support the applications engineering group on customer and application‑specific issues.
Conduct root‑cause failure analysis of alternator test failures.
Develop, maintain, and teach best practices within the department.
Educate internal and external stakeholders on power‑systems fundamentals.
Assist in optimizing new and existing power systems for performance and cost.
Travel domestically and internationally (under 10%).
Education and Experience Requirements
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
Experience:
3+ years in electrical engineering.
Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
Strong communication skills.
High motivation and ability to collaborate effectively in a team and independently.
Preference for candidates with: hands‑on electric machine testing, targeted coursework in electric machines, experience with QD0 analyses, symmetric component analyses, islanded power systems, and/or electromagnetic finite element tools.
