Base pay range $119,510.00/yr - $140,600.00/yr

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Vice President, Individual Giving, the Director of Individual Giving oversees strategic planning and development to raise support for, and advance Habitat for Humanity's mission by sustaining and growing relationships, leading to Major and Principal Gifts, through innovative relationship fundraising best practices.

Providing day-to-day leadership for a group of development officers, the Director serves as a player-coach mentor and supervisor, designing and monitoring performance goals for the team. This role is responsible for implementing creative, cutting‑edge tactics to financially engage individual donors and prospects in the work of Habitat for Humanity. The Director cultivates and solicits gifts ranging from $100,000 to more than $1,000,000, while supervising selected development officers in their assigned region (Western United States) to plan and execute the identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and growth of five‑figure and above gifts, including Major and Principal Gifts.

Location:

100% remote within the United States; preference for candidates based on the U.S. West Coast.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership - 25%

Collaboratively establishing the annual strategy, goals and objectives of the Major and Principal Gifts Department, as they relate to the annual Resource Development plan. Responsible for leading the team in securing $15M+ in annual philanthropic support. Engaging cross‑functional HFHI/HFH colleagues in comprehensive prospect and donor cultivation and solicitation. This may include Board, Volunteer, and Senior‑Staff leadership as well as collaboration with internal program and subject‑matter experts.

Team Leadership & Operations - 45%

Effectively leading the Major Gifts team in the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects, donors and volunteers. Providing leadership and direction to the Major Gifts team in closing five, six and seven‑figure commitments from individuals. Directing administration for the Major and Principal Gifts team for defined region including budgeting, key performance indicators and metrics, and related processes. Creating a professional environment that encourages and supports a highly functional resource development team.

Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward qualified prospects and donors, managing a portfolio of approximately 40‑80 qualified relationships in a defined territory. Conduct and/or coordinate face‑to‑face visits and other activities with donors. Lead team by example through meeting or exceeding stated goals for individual performance.

Education • Bachelor's degree required

Years of Related Experience • 10+ years of relevant experience

• Prior experience soliciting and closing gifts in excess of $500,000 from individuals and family foundations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Strong skills in fundraising, consulting, negotiation, planning and budgeting.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Expertise in major giving moves management processes.

• Ability to set and articulate priorities and manage competing ones against limited resources.

• Understanding of and passion for Habitat’s mission and clear commitment to achieving the vision.

• Ability to collaborate with others in a complex, matrix‑structured, multinational, dynamic organizational environment

• Individual of unquestionable integrity whose professional and personal conduct reflect HFH’s values.

• Strong analytical skills and experience reviewing reports and making data‑driven decisions.

Preferred Requirements • Master's degree preferred

• 5+ years demonstrated leadership of team of at least 5 fundraisers

• Experience fundraising in a federated model.

• Experience fundraising for a global organization.

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance. For work locations in the US, the hiring range for this position is $119,510 to $140,600.
