Project Engineer II
Provides technical source of information for the project, with thorough knowledge of construction documents, subcontracts, and purchase orders. Responds to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders, maintaining professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers. May assist with supervising or training Field Engineers. The role spans three steps (I, II, Senior) based on experience:
Step I
– entry level;
Step II
– 3 years of experience or larger projects;
Senior
– more than 6 years or significantly larger projects.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate understanding of components of the project management plan, including scope, procurement, environmental, time, financial, quality, safety, and risk management plans.
Develop procurement schedule integrated with project CPM schedule; procure materials and equipment; coordinate submittals and review for compliance.
Understand prime contract, subcontracts, purchase orders, and contract drawings; administer budgeting and cost control to keep project within approved budget.
Maintain "As-built" contract documents; compile close-out requirements including operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and other job-specific items.
Participate in concrete form design and related equipment selection; perform takeoffs for concrete, asphalt concrete, earthwork, and utilities.
Plan, acquire, develop, and supervise project team members to ensure execution.
Prepare and maintain quantity reporting mechanisms; coordinate agendas, prepare minutes, and keep project logs.
Prepare and review change orders, including time extensions, and manage change order logs; distribute documents as required.
Prevent and identify potential claims, quantify, mitigate, and resolve claims timely.
Minimum Job Requirements
Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, and interdependence between functional units.
Four‑year construction‑related degree or equivalent technical training with minimum 3–4 years of similar engineering experience.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines and supervise/train Field Engineers if required.
Physical Requirements
Wear personal protective equipment (steel‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
Reach above shoulder height and below the waist frequently; stoop, kneel, or bend occasionally.
Use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on limited basis.
Comply with all safety standards and procedures; occasionally climb stairs or ladders.
Use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects frequently; lift, push, or pull occasionally; sit, stand or walk short distances for shift duration.
