Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) – Journey Traveler must be able to travel nationwide for 13‑week assignments. This position provides flexibility to travel across the country and work in various settings. On assignment the SLP organizes and provides speech‑language services for the location to facilitate rehabilitation, directing patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. The SLP also facilitates the learning of essential communication and swallowing skills to diminish or remediate disorders or deficits, promoting health within the scope of practice and consistent with the Code of Ethics of the profession.
Supervises CFYs temporary licensees, students, and support personnel in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards.
Delivers rehab services efficiently, adhering to established plans of care, department and patient schedules, and ensuring timely documentation.
Contributes to patient care, staffing conferences, and related meetings.
Makes referrals to other disciplines and agencies to address comprehensive patient needs.
Consults with the rehabilitation team to select the most appropriate therapeutic regimen based on patient needs and capabilities.
Adapts program and/or plan of care according to the individual patient’s needs.
Promotes a safe environment and enforces elimination of fire and safety hazards.
Orders supplies and equipment as necessary.
Cleans, maintains, and reports the need for repair of equipment.
Prioritizes patient service, ensuring residents and families receive high‑quality, compassionate care.
Screening, examination, and evaluation of patients, including history, systems review, and appropriate tests, to establish diagnosis and design plan of care.
Develops treatment goals and methods collaboratively with patients and caregivers, implements the plan, and maintains documentation.
Applies therapeutic techniques in areas such as cognitive communication, speech intelligibility, oral motor skills, swallowing disorders/dysphagia, perceptual abilities, orientation, memory, pragmatics, psychosocial expression, and functional communication.
Performs Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) when specialized training permits.
Coordinates acquisition of adaptive communication devices and instructs patients in their use.
Facilitates identification of hearing deficits and refers for assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and/or personal amplification.
Selects appropriate activities based on the individual’s mental and physical capacity, intelligence level, and interests.
Instructs patients in skills and techniques for therapeutic activities, evaluating progress, attitudes, and behavior toward rehabilitative potential.
Performs routine reexamination as needed to modify or progress the treatment plan.
Performs other related duties as required.
Posted Salary Range USD $55.00 – $70.00 per hour
Qualifications The candidate must possess a master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Communicative Disorders, or a similarly titled area recognized by the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association.
