The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), a leader in innovation, education, and clinical excellence seeks a highly motivated Emergency Medicine physician to join our academic faculty as Assistant Director of the AEMUS Fellowship and Core Faculty in the UIC Emergency Medicine Residency Program.

This role offers the opportunity to take on a key leadership position in ultrasound education, mentoring fellows, residents, and medical students within a robust, academically focused department. The selected candidate will contribute to the ongoing development of our AEMUS curriculum, educational initiatives, and scholarly activity, with the potential for future advancement into greater leadership roles within the department’s AEMUS division.

The UIC Department of Emergency Medicine is committed to excellence in time‑sensitive emergency care, as well as innovation in preventing future emergencies by identifying our most at‑risk patient populations. Integration of ultrasound in time‑sensitive and preventive care for at‑risk patients is a critical component of our clinical, education and research programs. The budgeted base salary range is $223,250 – $272,833, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and aligned with internal equity. This position will qualify for additional annual generous incentive compensation. Competitive benefits are included.

Education & Certification

Medical doctorate (MD, DO, or equivalent)

Illinois medical licensure (or eligibility)

Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine

Training & Expertise

Fellowship training in Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasound (AEMUS)

Focused Practice Designation (FPD) in AEMUS, or eligibility to sit for the FPD examination

Teaching & Scholarship

Demonstrated commitment to medical education, with experience teaching medical students and residents in bedside, small-group, and lecture settings

Experience developing or leading a clinical education course or workshop, preferably involving point‑of‑care ultrasound (POCUS)

Evidence of scholarly activity (e.g., publications, research, invited presentations, or regional/national contributions in ultrasound education or innovation)

Program Development & Leadership

Enthusiasm for resident and fellow education, with the ability to meet ACGME criteria for Core Faculty in the Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Interest in complementing ongoing ultrasound training and assisting with curriculum design, teaching procedural techniques, assessment and evaluation, and scholarly development

Interest in collaborating with researchers to develop innovative applications of ultrasound for emergency care

Opportunity to contribute to program leadership and the growth of AEMUS fellowship training as the program evolves

Inter‑departmental collaboration with other health system leaders
