School of Medicine There has been significant growth in thoracic aortic surgery and transcatheter aortic and valvular therapies at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System. There is a programmatic need to recruit a cardiothoracic surgeon with expertise in these areas to join the Stanford faculty in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University as an Assistant Professor in the University Medical Line at the Palo Alto VA. This position offers robust opportunities to participate in thoracic aortic surgery, valvular surgery, and other subspecialty areas in adult cardiovascular surgery at the Palo Alto VA, with occasional clinical coverage responsibilities at the Stanford main campus and other Stanford‑affiliated sites. There is a great desire to develop an integrated research program related to thoracic aortic diseases at the Palo Alto VA. The successful candidate will be specifically tasked with conducting basic science, translational, and engineering research in innovative aortic and cardiovascular therapies, with the goal of developing an independently funded laboratory. The individual will also be involved in surgical resident and medical student education. Core Responsibilities

Provide clinical care in thoracic aortic surgery, valvular surgery, and other adult cardiovascular surgery subspecialty areas. Fulfill occasional clinical coverage duties at the Stanford main campus and affiliated sites. Conduct basic science, translational, and engineering research to develop an independently funded laboratory. Mentor and teach medical students, residents, and fellows. Qualifications and Expectations

Board‑eligible or board‑certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery and residency‑trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Completed house staff training and, where appropriate, postdoctoral fellowship training. Demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in clinical care, teaching, and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine. Show potential for regional recognition for excellence in overall contributions. Evidence of commitment to teaching, with potential to meet or exceed acceptable standards in teaching. Compensation and Benefits

Assistant Professor: $300,000 – $365,000 base pay range.

It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or departmental incentive compensation programs.
