Working for the largest steel fabricator and erector in North America, our world‑class Estimators produce accurate, detail‑oriented estimates on some of the most amazing structural projects in the world. As a Senior Estimator at Schuff, you will work as part of a team of Estimators with leadership responsibilities. You will produce accurate, detail‑oriented estimates on small and large projects with varying complexity.

Key Performance Objectives

Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, schedules and other documentation presented by the client, to accurately prepare and estimate projects.

Work directly with Sales and Pre‑construction teams to understand the size and scope of projects, along with timelines and applicable project deadlines.

Collaborate with others on how we want to build the job through fabrication and erection.

Adhere to and follow the Schuff Steel estimating guidelines and procedures.

Prepare detail‑oriented and accurate estimates on new projects as well as any changes to orders on existing contracts, meeting assigned deadlines.

Prepare the takeoff of steel materials, estimate all necessary shop labor and field labor, buyout items, equipment cost, and subcontractor work, etc., to prepare a thorough estimate.

All estimated information shall be entered into our proprietary software for processing, summarized, and the results will be shared with appropriate leaders to ensure all aspects of the job are accounted for.

Be comfortable discussing alternative recommendations on projects in which management requires supplementary estimates to meet client needs.

Interact with other team members, internal departments, and subcontractors professionally.

Education / Training

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Degree in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering or Business from an accredited college or university may substitute for three (3) YOE.

Work Experience

Seven to ten (7‑10) YOE progressively estimating and bidding structural steel and heavy plate construction projects.

Five (5) or more YOE performing Lead Estimator responsibilities.

Proven experience as a construction or steel estimator, providing companies with accurate information that aids operations in achieving corporate goals.

Specialized Knowledge

Thorough understanding of structural steel and architectural design drawings and details.

Comprehensive steel construction terminology and concepts.

Knowledge of estimating software packages.

Ideal candidate should be very comfortable with numbers and analytical thought.

Great attention to detail, both written and verbal.

Software & Technology Various office equipment is used, such as personal computers, scanners, and copiers. Proficient knowledge of latest applications is required for this role, including Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Revu/Bluebeam, Plan Swift, Trimble Connect, and Tekla Structures.

Work Environment The position requires as many hours as needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the responsibilities. Working long days, including evenings and weekends, can be required for this position. Work is generally performed in a climate‑controlled office area. Limited travel may be required. Position requires ability to lift and carry items on occasion.
