Base Pay Range $185,000.00/yr - $270,000.00/yr
Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
United States Citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy)
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
Degree obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current – full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State/Territory/Commonshandy United States – or in the District of Columbia
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) – (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) – (3) Other residencies (non‑US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) – deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs who otherwise meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged
They are to have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Additional Requirement: Completed ACGME accredited residency in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine (Preferred)

Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties of Physician under normal and emergent conditions – moderate lifting 15‑44 lbs and over with assistive devices; heavy carrying 15‑44 lbs and over with assistive devices; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers – both hands required; walking or standing up to 4 h per day; repeated bending up to 1‑2 h per day; rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hearing aid permitted. Duties
Primary Care Physicians perform a wide variety of tasks and are expected to have a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
The provider will work for Primary Care Service within the Salisbury VA Healthcare System (VAHCS).
Familiarity with concepts, tools, and technology within the field of Family Practice.
Each Physician holds an MD or DO from an approved college or university and has completed an ACGME accredited residency in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
Meet physical standards and credentialing and privileging criteria outlined in VHA SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES; comply with national and local regulatory policy and accreditation requirements.
Ensure appropriate time mapping and resources to meet expected proficiencies in administration, clinical practice, education, and research.
Administrative Duties: a) Attend staff meetings, communicate with PACT team staff and administrative personnel to facilitate quality care and access to a panel of Veterans, and prepare issue briefs related to adverse patient outcomes, congressional inquiries, or non‑judicial investigations.
b) Clinical Management including indirect patient care: open encounter and consult maintenance, CPRS documentation requirements, clinic management monitoring.
Maintain involvement in matters concerning clinic productivity, relevant performance, quality and patient safety oversight, and process improvements (system redesigns).
Clinical Duties: remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field. Privileges and procedures approved by Professional Standards Board.
Patient Care: provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life.
Medical/Clinical Knowledge: demonstrate knowledge of established evolving biomedical, clinical and social sciences and apply that knowledge to patient care and education.
Clinical Judgement: use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills: establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other healthcare team members.
Professionalism: demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, sensitivity to diversity, and responsible attitude toward patients and the profession.
Systems‑Based Practice: understand the contexts and systems in which healthcare is provided and apply this knowledge to improve health outcomes.
Education: effectiveness in teaching, monitoring and coordinating education activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision requirements.
Research and Development: identify and define significant research problems, plan and execute precise research programs, and generate publishable results.
Supervisory Controls: accountable to ACOS of Primary Care or HCC Medical Director; keep administrative team abreast of any situation affecting patient care or access.
Responsible for delivering effective Primary Care throughout the medical center while meeting and exceeding compliance standards.
