Position Summary Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist with preoperative preparation and other duties in the Ambulatory Surgery Center. The candidate will provide patient care, set up and maintain the operating room, and support the surgical team while upholding our high standards of excellence.

Duties

Care for the surgical patient in an ambulatory surgical operating room setting.

Assemble equipment, supplies, sutures, and instruments for each assigned procedure.

Assist with scrubs for all specialty services and complex procedures, maintaining the surgical field.

Clean, restock, and reconfigure the operating room between procedures and at the end of the schedule.

Test equipment for operational efficiency and report problems to the clinician or nurse manager.

Assist in restocking storage and equipment supply areas.

Attend in‑service training programs.

Recommend improvements in job performance and patient care.

Communicate instrumentation needs to CSS.

Assist in preparing equipment for special procedures.

Document appropriate patient care information.

Required Qualifications

Successful completion of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and possession of a certified surgical technologist credential from a nationally accredited organization.

OR completion of an appropriate training program with the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Public Health Commissioned Corps.

OR employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within the four years immediately prior to January 1 2015.

Preferred Qualifications

Acute care surgical technologist experience.

Strong orthopedic and ophthalmology scrub experience.

Recent experience working in an ambulatory surgery center.

Additional Requirements Prior to Start Date

Successful completion of a pre‑employment physical and medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.

Complete electronic reference check with at least three professional references.

Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.

Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.

Provide any required New York State license(s) or certificate(s).

Benefits and Compensation Starting salary: $52.02 per hour. Additional compensation includes generous leave, health plans, and state pension benefits. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience.
