RN Supervisor (T&RC) Clinician Blood Donor Full-Time Day Shift

Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, Registered Nurses are critical team members who diagnose and treat responses to health problems using nursing methods such as case finding, health teaching, and counseling. They provide supportive care to patients while following a medical regimen. The RN Supervisor (Clinician) functions as the nurse leader of a unit on a given shift. This role may also provide individualized direct patient care using relevant skills and knowledge. It supervises Registered Nurses and ancillary personnel and reports directly to the Nurse Manager. Duties
Assumes Charge RN role on unit. Provides first‑level supervision, offers performance feedback, and initiates disciplinary action if warranted. Accountable for delivery of nursing care to all assigned patients. Develops initial nursing assessment and interdisciplinary plan of care within eight hours of admission; revises as needed at least every 24 hours. Prepares daily patient‑care assignments based on patient needs and staff credentials. Administers medications and treatments per physician orders. Documents patient/family teaching and ensures consistency with physician instructions. Preceptor in orientation of nursing personnel and students; documents achieved competencies. Provides direct patient care as needed, demonstrating advanced knowledge in specialty area. Monitors quality of nursing care and documentation through interaction with staff and families. Completes yearly evaluations and competency assessments with the nurse manager. Working Conditions
Exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids, tissue and other unpleasant elements. Possible exposure to emergencies and crisis situations, irregular hours, and high pressure. Classified by OSHA as Category 1. Qualifications
Experience:
At least 2 years post‑licensure acute‑care nursing experience. Education:
Graduation from a National League of Nursing Accredited School of Nursing. BCLS certification required. License:
Current RN license in New York State. Preferred:
Two years of experience in area of specialization, bachelor’s degree, unit‑specific specialty certification, apheresis/blood donor experience. Physical Demands
Prolonged standing/walking, lifting, positioning, pushing, transferring. Lifting supplies/equipment. Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Special Notes
