WMCHealth is pleased to announce the search for a full‑time Program Director position for its well-established, ACGME‑accredited Anesthesiology Residency Program at Westchester Medical Center (WMC), a 652‑bed academic flagship hospital in academic affiliation with the NYMC School of Medicine (NYMC SOM).
The Anesthesiology Residency Program, with 52 total residents, features experienced, fellowship‑trained faculty members, a strong medical school partnership, and excellent recruitment and matching metrics. The next Program Director will inherit a well‑functioning, fully staffed administrative, clinical, and educational infrastructure to educate Anesthesiology residents in service to the health needs of the local community and in alignment with the missions of WMCHealth and New York Medical College School of Medicine (NYMC SOM).
The Program Director’s role is described in detail in the ACGME Core Program requirements and in the Anesthesiology Residency Review Committee requirements. They will have authority and accountability for the overall Anesthesiology Residency Program, including administration and operations; teaching and scholarly activity; and compliance with all applicable requirements. The Program Director will be responsible for resident recruitment, selection, evaluation, promotion, disciplinary action, and clinical and didactic education. The Program Director will select and evaluate program faculty and monitor resident supervision. This position will also prepare and submit all information requested by ACGME and ensure compliance with all applicable accreditation requirements and grievance and due process procedures.
The Program Director reports to the Director of Anesthesiology at WMC who additionally serves as the Chair of Anesthesiology at NYMC SOM. The position will interface with the sponsoring institution’s Designated Institutional Official (DIO), hospital leadership, and other programs that work in partnership with Anesthesiology.
ELIGIBILITY
MD or DO degree
American Board of Anesthesiology Diplomate status (active)
Eligibility for an unrestricted New York State medical license
A minimum of 3 years of Anesthesiology residency program leadership experience, either as an Associate Program Director or Program Director, in an ACGME accredited training program of medium to large size
Strong understanding of the requirements of the Program Director position
Familiarity with ACGME Core program and Anesthesiology regulations and ABA Policies
Familiarity with NY State regulations that govern GME is not required but is desirable
Must demonstrate ongoing academic achievements in anesthesiology, including publications and the development of educational programs
The program director must be clinically active
Rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor; an Assistant Professor eligible for promotion to Associate Professor may be considered
Active participation in national clinical society committee work, and/or ABA
Supervision and development of Associate/Assistant program leaders who have protected non‑clinical time for this work (total for program leadership, including PD, is 0.9 FTE)
Commitment to serve for a period that is sufficient to ensure program continuity and stability
Leadership Criteria

COMPENSATION A good‑faith estimate of total compensation for this position is $650,000 to $750,000. Faculty appointment and offered base salary will be determined based on a review of experience and training. The position is bonus eligible. The Program Director is allotted two protected administrative days weekly (0.4 FTE) and will demonstrate ongoing clinical activity, inclusive of taking full call, which will be factored into total compensation.
