ABOUT THE PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT ROLE The APP role at MGBCI empowers advanced practice providers to work at the top of their license, with robust support for professional development at every career stage. APPs can practice in both inpatient and ambulatory settings—across our academic medical centers and community sites—and choose to focus broadly or subspecialize.
The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various patient populations, including medical and surgical patients. The PA provides direct care, counseling, and teaching in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and procedural settings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform complete histories and physical examinations.
Order, interpret, and evaluate appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Develop appropriate plans of care and follow‑up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
Order medications and write prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
Consistently provide high quality and timely documentation—including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
Perform bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master’s Degree Physician Assistant required.
Licenses and Credentials: Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic (HR Only required).
Experience: Licensed Physician Assistant preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
Ability to maintain quality control standards.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
