About the company Cahira Technologies Inc is an MIT spinoff company (https://www.linkedin.com/company/cahiratech/). We have built the multiple award-winning technology of the
world’s first autonomous and non-surgical neural implants : novel sub-cellular sized wireless electronic devices that seamlessly integrate with the neurons or other biological cells, enabling brain-computer symbiosis beyond conventional brain-computer interfaces. Join us in our exciting journey to define the future of neurotech! About the role We are building a
bioengineering group
to demonstrate the application of our
injectable, wireless nano-implants
to restore eyesight without surgery. This includes demonstrations of electrical neuromodulation using these devices in
retinal explants
and characterizations through
multi-electrode array (MEA)/patch-clamp electrophysiology
followed by
in vivo tests in rodent models
for efficacy (electrophysiology and behavior) and safety. This team will be responsible for end-to-end execution of all pre-clinical experiments required to bring our retinal prosthesis to IDE-enabling stage. Qualifications Required: PhD in neuroscience, vision science, neuro-engineering, biology, bioengineering, biomedical engineering or relevant field Hands-on experience with
small-animal ophthalmology and retinal prosthesis
for electrical stimulation such as bionic eye, photovoltaic implant, wired implant, sub-retinal or epi-retinal implant, injectable neuro-prosthesis, nanoparticles etc. Hands-on experience with
rodent models
such as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) (rd1, rd10, RCS, S334ter etc) Hands-on experience with rodent (mouse/rats) ocular surgery such as
retina isolation and injections
such as intravitreal/suprachoroidal/sub-retinal/ subtenon injections Hands-on experience with
retinal electrophysiology
(multi-electrode array (MEA) or patch clamping) ex vivo in isolated retina Hands-on experience with
in vivo electrophysiology
such as measuring visual evoked potential and electroretinogram (ERG) Hands-on experience with
characterizing acuity and resolution
through methods such as pattern visual-evoked-potential (VEP) grating-acuity assay, optokinetic/optomotor reflex (OKR) test Hands-on experience with
behavioral vision assays
and tests such as pupillary light reflex, light/dark box, water-maze tests Hands-on experience in preparing
retinal flat-mounts
& cryo-sections; performing histology, immunostaining and confocal microscopy. Preferred Experience: Experience with
data analysis , statistical modeling and programming skills such as MATLAB/Python/COMSOL Experience in building
optical equipment Experience in operating fundus camera &
optical coherence tomography (OCT) Experience with
optogenetics Important:
