Position Description
We are looking for a strategic and dynamic Manager of Communications to enhance storytelling and elevate the profile of the Soccer Forward Foundation. This role involves aligning communications across the Advancement and Commercial teams, building awareness around major gifts, partnerships, and donor impact, and connecting the Foundation’s work to broader commercial initiatives.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Vice President of External Communications to develop and implement an integrated communication strategy. They should be a natural storyteller, a strong writer, and a proactive media liaison with excellent project management skills capable of managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop and implement the communications strategy for the Soccer Forward Foundation in collaboration with the VP of External Communications.
Create and manage storytelling opportunities for Foundation programs, building relationships with media to secure coverage.
Craft compelling narratives highlighting the Foundation’s impact, major gifts, and strategic partnerships.
Ensure brand consistency and amplify impact by connecting storytelling efforts across departments.
Produce press materials, feature stories, speeches, talking points, and donor communications.
Pitch stories to media outlets and secure coverage to increase visibility.
Manage reactive press inquiries, providing research, recommendations, and strategic assessments.
Oversee creation of donor spotlights, case statements, social media content, videos, and other storytelling tools.
Coordinate messaging between teams to share success stories and align communications.
Support commercial partnerships with relevant content tied to the Foundation’s mission.
Lead multiple projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.
Monitor progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
At least 5 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or related areas.
Experience developing campaigns from scratch, including strategy, messaging, content, and distribution, especially for community or social impact initiatives.
Excellent writing and editing skills for various formats such as press releases, social media, pitches, and memos.
Strong planning and prioritization skills to meet tight deadlines.
Proven success in pitching and placing stories in media outlets.
Exceptional organizational and project management abilities.
Experience collaborating across departments and with external partners to align messaging.
Experience working with fundraising, philanthropic, or nonprofit initiatives is a plus.
A passion for sports, community impact, and donor engagement is desirable.
Ability to thrive in fast-paced, demanding environments.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
