Position Overview
The School of Continuing Education and Professional Development seeks a dynamic and experienced part-time instructor to teach courses in Foreign Languages. These courses help adult learners build communication proficiency, cultural awareness, and language skills for professional and personal growth. Courses are designed to be immersive, culturally relevant, and learner-centered
What you will be doing
Teaches foreign language courses to adult learners seeking to build communication skills for personal, professional, or academic growth. Uses communicative and immersive teaching methods to enhance language acquisition Develops course materials, assessments, and multimedia resources Incorporates cultural context to enrich student learning experiences Provides feedback and guidance to support student growth Tracks and reports student attendance and performance Uses technology and online platforms to support instruction as needed Fosters a respectful, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment Adapts instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners Collaborates with program staff to align language instruction with institutional goals Designs and delivers instruction in one or more foreign languages across various proficiency levels Creates engaging and interactive lessons that support speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills Incorporates cultural content and authentic materials into course design Utilizes differentiated instruction to meet learner needs Integrates technology and online resources to enhance instruction Assesses student performance through oral and written activities Maintains accurate records of attendance, assignments, and grades Collaborates with program staff to ensure curriculum consistency and quality Participates in professional development related to language instruction Performs other duties as assigned What you need to succeed
Master's degree in the language taught; OR Bachelor's degree in the language taught AND two (2) years of teaching and/or professional experience in the language; OR Fluent/native speaker with a Bachelor's degree AND three (3) years of teaching and/or professional experience in the language Fluency in the target language and proficiency in teaching it to adult learners Knowledge of second language acquisition and instructional methods Strong cross-cultural communication skills and global awareness Experience using communicative, student-centered teaching techniques Familiarity with instructional technology and language learning platforms Ability to create inclusive, engaging classroom environments Strong written and verbal communication in English and the target language Skill in developing curriculum and assessing language proficiency Cultural sensitivity and adaptability in diverse educational settings Organizational skills and attention to student progress tracking Preferences
Prior experience teaching adult learners preferred. Additional Requirements
