Hawkins Parnell & Young, LLP’s Chicago office seeks a highly motivated litigation attorney with 3-5 years of experience, preferably in product liability, premises, and/or mass tort defense. The attorney’s caseload will include matters pending throughout Illinois, with the potential to join national litigation teams. The attorney will defend product manufacturers in mass tort cases, including asbestos, hair relaxer, and talc litigation. Additional defense opportunities include gig-economy, transportation, and municipalities.

The successful candidate must be licensed in Illinois, reside in the Chicago area, have strong academic credentials, and demonstrate a willingness to learn, collaborate, and gain trial experience from a dedicated and successful litigation team.

Duties And Responsibilities

Trial preparation, including strategy discussion, discovery, records review, client interviews, and witness preparation

Legal and factual research and investigation

Drafting briefs, memos, and client updates

Attendance at depositions, hearings, and mediations

Ability to work in the Chicago loop office and travel as needed

Collaborate closely with national counsel teams and HPY’s attorneys in St. Louis and Detroit

Skills And Educational Requirements

Active Illinois Bar License; Michigan and/or Missouri license preferred

Previous litigation experience, including depositions and courtroom work

Participation in law review and/or moot court is a plus

Excellent academic credentials with strong writing, analytical, and communication skills; writing sample required

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage priorities, and meet deadlines

Self-starter with the capacity to handle multiple projects independently

Client-focused mindset

Flexible and team-oriented work approach

Attention to detail

Technologically proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel

Curious about current litigation trends and legal opinions
