HJF is seeking a
Scientist III
who will lead the development and execution of research projects related to musculoskeletal injury prevention. They will serve as a Principal Investigator and will be responsible for independently conceiving and designing research projects of considerable complexity and difficulty. Supervises projects and investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products, and problems. Develops new technologies and protocols.
This position will be in support of The
Consortium for Health and Military Performance
and the newly merged Center (CHAMP/MIRROR/CRSR) within the Department of Military and Emergency Medicine. The candidate will support multiple research programs focused on musculoskeletal health, injury prevention, and human performance optimization in military Service Members and the DoD. They will provide scientific direction, technical, and programmatic expertise to support these research efforts and collaborate with scientists and principal investigators in the Injury Prevention Research Lab and across the Center. The incumbent will conduct data analysis and interpretation; and prepare and disseminate results in manuscripts, presentations, briefings, and reports.

Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
Responsibilities
Plans, executes, and/or oversees applied qualitative and quantitative field-based research in support of the new Center mission, such as research related to human performance and musculoskeletal injury prevention and treatment. Demonstrates cross-disciplinary knowledge, leadership, and communication. Designs and implements experimental protocol. Trains and supervises technical staff and other scientists. Coordinates with other technical and professional staff. Collects, processes, and interprets experimental data utilizing relational databases, Microsoft Power PI, and other statistical applications as necessary, Prepares publication-ready manuscripts. Finalizes reports and reviews for submission to scientific journals and patent applications. Presents work internally and externally at scientific meetings. Makes major contributions to scientific literature and conferences related to Military Health, Sports Medicine, and Human Performance. Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards. Coordinates and prepares new grant and funding applications. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. Prepares lectures and briefs for stakeholders, USU students, and Commanding Officers related to injury prevention, musculoskeletal injury, and human performance optimization.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Doctoral Degree required. Preference for degree in a related field (Exercise Science, Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Athletic Training) Minimum of 8-10 years of experience required. Certified Athletic Trainer (NATABOC) for 10+ years Previous research experience in the DoD environment (e.g., kinesiology, athletic training, etc.) with a strong interest in applied, field-based military research and implementation. Experience building curriculum for medical and health professional students related to human performance, musculoskeletal injury, and injury prevention
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Well-developed analytical, and problem-solving skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to work independently and in a team environment Knowledge of Department of Defense, Military Health Systems, and musculoskeletal injury epidemiology Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust and Common Access Card (CAC)
Work Environment
This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
