Position Summary
Executive Director of Finance will serve as the Chief financial officer (CFO). The Executive Director of Finance will be responsible for leading all financial operations and strategy, leveraging the full capabilities of the Workday Financial Management system. This leadership role ensures fiscal responsibility, optimizes financial performance, fosters collaborative financial management—including budgeting, audits, contract management, payroll, grant oversight—and provides actionable data insights to support Luna Community College’s mission of student success. The Executive Director reports to the President of Luna Community College and is a key member of the college’s leadership team. Direct reports include the Comptroller and Budget Director, Grants Coordinator, Administrative and Finance Coordinator, and the Procurement Director.
Compensation Starting Salary $105,000
Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting Leadership: Oversee all daily operations of accounting, auditing, accounts payable, grants, payroll (in collaboration with CHESS Payroll and the Human Resources Department), and general ledger functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP, GASB, and federal/state regulations and reporting requirements.
Workday System Leadership: Serve as the functional expert and primary point of contact for Workday Finance, leading the configuration, maintenance, and optimization of Workday modules (General Ledger, Expenses, Procurement, Assets, etc.).
Budgeting & Financial Planning: Direct the annual budget process, financial forecasting, and long‑term financial modeling within Workday, providing insightful analysis and variance reports to senior management and the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board.
Data Analytics & Process Improvement: Utilize Workday’s reporting and analytics capabilities to drive strategic decision‑making, automate processes, and enhance operational efficiency across financial workflows.
Compliance & Internal Controls: Ensure the college meets compliance with Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and all New Mexico State Education, U.S. Department of Education standards and regulations. Establish and monitor the effectiveness of internal controls and segregation of duties within Workday.
Audits & Grant Management: Coordinate all internal and external audits, including state and federal grant audits, ensuring timely completion and compliance with all grant fiscal activity and reporting requirements.
Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor the finance department staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and service excellence.
Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison with Workday representatives and external service providers, collaborating with cross‑functional teams (HR, IT, Financial Aid) to support integrated developments within the Workday platform.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL FACTORS
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The worker sits most of the time.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspection.
The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Education And Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution. Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of eight (6) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a higher education or public sector environment.
Minimum of five (5) years of leadership or supervisory experience.
Extensive hands‑on experience with Workday Financial Management configuration, reporting, and implementation/upgrades is preferred.
Experience working in a higher education setting is preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
