Job Description As a Senior Mechanical Stress Analysis Engineer at Honeywell, you will play a key role within the Turbomachinery and Heat Exchanger Analysis group in our Additive Analysis Mechanical and Design (AAMD) directorate. You will be responsible for the development and analysis of Environmental Control System (ECS) turbomachinery, heat exchangers, and electric traction drive motors. In this role, you will lead and perform stress, vibration, and heat transfer analyses, applying advanced engineering principles to ensure our products meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and compliance.
You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to provide technical expertise, design validation, and analytical support across a variety of projects and programs. This position will also involve technical mentorship, process improvement initiatives, and presentations to internal and external customers. You will report directly to our Engineering Manager and you’ll work out of our Torrance, CA location on a Hybrid work schedule. In this role, you will impact the design and validation of high‑performance turbomachinery and thermal systems, contributing to Honeywell’s mission of creating innovative, energy‑efficient solutions for aerospace applications.
Responsibilities
Perform stress analysis using complex finite element and classical calculation methods, and support product testing.
Conduct heat transfer analyses (analytical correlations and finite element methods) and apply theory in thermodynamics, single and multi‑phase flows, and energy systems.
Provide technical oversight to global engineering teams across time zones.
Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
Ensure requirements validation, project and product compliance, and risk management.
Participate in and conduct design reviews and technical presentations for internal and external customers.
Contribute to process development, root cause analysis, and corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications US Person Requirement
Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or closely related field), with strong foundation in heat transfer, thermal sciences, and structural/stress analysis.
8+ years of experience performing mechanical analyses including structural, stress, fatigue, vibration, and crack growth evaluations on complex mechanical components or systems.
Proficiency in ANSYS (or equivalent FEA tools) with demonstrated capability in linear/nonlinear analysis, transient modeling, and failure mechanics.
Hands‑on experience applying thermodynamics and heat transfer principles to solve design problems in high‑performance or safety‑critical hardware.
Experience with turbomachinery, gas turbine engines, rotating machinery, or related systems.
Strong team player with excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Ability to mentor junior engineers and provide clear technical guidance.
Experience in new product development within a regulated or highly engineered environment.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and deliver solutions to complex engineering challenges.
Ability to work effectively within a matrix organization.
Demonstrated initiative to improve processes and drive execution excellence.
Track record of successful contributions from concept through delivery or production support.

Compensation The annual base salary range for this position is $116,000 - $145,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
