Proskauer is seeking a highly motivated and creative professional to drive business development initiatives for the Firm’s premier Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Transactions practices, as well as support the Firm’s key industry groups – including Healthcare, Hospitality, Technology, Media & Entertainment, Real Estate and Sports. Acting as a strategic partner to our global team of partners, this individual will play a key role in shaping, planning and executing integrated marketing and client strategies.

Proskauer advises on major and innovative transactions across key industries, including financial services, sports, life sciences, media and entertainment, healthcare, hospitality, technology and real estate. Our M&A and Private Equity Transactions teams draw on strong market insight and extensive transactional experience to help clients navigate deals strategically and efficiently.

The Business Development Manager serves as a strategic partner to attorneys within designated practice groups, driving initiatives that expand client relationships, enhance market visibility, and increase firm revenue. This role combines strategic planning, team leadership, and hands‑on execution to implement business development and marketing strategies aligned with the firm’s objectives. The Manager collaborates with firm leadership, oversees BD team members, and leverages market intelligence to position the firm for continued growth.

Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Planning and Business Growth

Develop and implement business development strategies for assigned practice groups – including Private Equity Transactions and Strategic M&A – and for Proskauer’s key industry groups, including Sports, Healthcare, TMT, Real Estate, and other strategic focus areas, ensuring alignment with firm-wide goals and priorities.

Lead regular practice group meetings, setting agendas, preparing materials, and managing follow‑up actions.

Identify and analyze new business opportunities, client growth areas, and cross‑selling initiatives across practices and industries.

Consult with attorneys to create, implement, and monitor individual business development plans that align with group and firm strategy.

Support lateral partner integration programs.

Client Targeting and Relationship Management

Lead and manage client targeting programs, including identifying prospects, tracking pursuits, and reporting on outcomes.

Partner with the Competitive Intelligence team to research clients, competitors, and market developments to uncover new opportunities and enhance client service.

Facilitate cross‑selling initiatives and support relationship‑building strategies for key clients and prospects.

Pitches, Proposals, and Marketing Materials

Oversee the preparation and delivery of high‑quality RFP responses, pitches, and presentations for the assigned practice groups and industry groups.

Collaborate with attorneys and marketing colleagues to create and maintain relevant collateral, including practice descriptions, brochures, and capability presentations.

Events, Sponsorships, and Thought Leadership

Manage the business development planning and preparation of client‑facing events, including receptions, webinars, and substantive programs, and track ROI.

Identify and coordinate firm participation in strategic sponsorships, conferences, and professional associations that enhance practice and attorney visibility.

Partner with the Marketing team to generate content for award submissions, legal directories, and league rankings.

Supervise and mentor business development team members, providing ongoing feedback and participating in the annual review process.

Qualifications

At least 8 years of relevant experience required; prior law firm business development experience a plus.

Practical professional services experience in a marketing or business development function is required.

Industry‑specific knowledge is preferred.

Robust project management skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative working style.

Strong time management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects; works well in a fast‑paced, demanding environment.

Works well independently with limited supervision, as well as part of a larger team.

Candidate must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage deadlines.

Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.

This position will require physical presence in Proskauer’s offices on a regular basis (at least 3x per week, or more, if it becomes the policy of the Firm or as business needs require). The anticipated compensation for this position is $140,000-$200,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
