Navision/Dynamics NAV Systems Specialist
We’re seeking a hands‑on Navision/Dynamics NAV technical specialist to optimize our existing ERP platform and drive significant improvements in reporting, inventory control, and shop floor management. This role combines deep technical expertise with process improvement capabilities to unlock the full value of our current system investment while positioning us for potential future system transitions.
Primary Responsibilities System Optimization & Data Quality
Understand and maintain the current NAV environment at deep technical and process levels, including direct database table access and SQL queries
Diagnose and resolve critical data integrity issues by cleaning and correcting corrupted data in tables, particularly for rentals and inventory modules
Access and correct data at the table level using SQL queries and Navision database tools
Establish data accuracy protocols and validation processes to prevent future data quality issues
Document current system configurations, customizations, and data structures
Reporting & Business Intelligence
Design and implement a comprehensive suite of automated daily, weekly, and monthly reports that guide business decisions without manual intervention
Create business intelligence dashboards that provide real‑time visibility into operations, inventory, and financial performance
Ensure reporting accuracy through proper data collection protocols and validation processes
Shop Floor Control & Inventory Management
Implement barcoding systems and improve shop floor control processes to achieve inventory accuracy comparable to industry benchmarks
Deploy non‑discrete warehousing functionality and warehouse management features within Navision to utilize currently unused platform capabilities
Configure existing functionality and add‑ons to better support manufacturing and rental operations, driving utilization beyond current levels
Process Design & Implementation
Lead process improvement initiatives through whiteboard, flowchart, and hands‑on configuration work while serving as technical guide and bottleneck resolver for implementation teams
Train internal staff on new processes and system functionality to build long‑term organizational capability (not just project management)
Assess current Navision platform capabilities, limitations, and optimization opportunities to maximize system value
Provide technical guidance on potential system migration scenarios and support future data conversion/integration projects if business transitions occur
Maintain awareness of Microsoft Dynamics roadmap, extended support timelines, and industry best practices
Qualifications Technical Skills
8+ years hands‑on experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Navision (experience with NAV 2013-2015 strongly preferred)
Proficiency in SQL queries and direct database table access/modification
Experience writing custom code in C/AL or AL programming languages
Strong understanding of Navision architecture, data models, and integration capabilities
Ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and implement technical solutions
Industry & Process Knowledge
Manufacturing environment experience required
Deep understanding of inventory management, WIP tracking, and shop floor control systems
Experience implementing barcoding and warehouse management systems (preferred)
Knowledge of rental management processes (preferred)
Familiarity with financial reporting requirements and period‑close processes
Soft Skills & Work Style
Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Strong communication skills to work with non‑technical stakeholders
Self‑directed problem solver who can work independently
Hands‑on mentality with willingness to “get in the weeds” on implementations
Process improvement mindset with ability to see the bigger picture
Ideal Candidate Profile
Gets satisfaction from solving complex data and system problems
Enjoys teaching others and building internal capabilities
Understands that sometimes the best solution is optimizing what you have rather than ripping and replacing
Can balance immediate tactical fixes with longer‑term strategic planning
