Senior Director, Business Development
WSP USA is seeking an Earth & Environment US Business Development Lead focused on sustainability and resilience services that may operate out of any mutually agreed office in the USA. The individual will direct the development and implementation of the growth strategy for private sector clients in service areas including climate risk, ESG, resilience, sustainability strategy, digital transformation, and climate finance. Key activities include outreach to existing and potential clients, collaborating with account leaders, building alliances, amplifying the company’s brand, and participating in strategic sales.
Responsibilities
Sets clients at the center for all we do, helping them be “Future Ready” through their sustainability and resilience programs
Brings an expanded view and integrated response to complex challenges by leveraging our full suite of offerings across all end markets
Builds strong client and stakeholder relationships to support national and regional growth
Leverages WSP’s national and global reach to foster new and innovative client delivery opportunities
Deploys our unique expertise and perspective to increase the number of key accounts, with focused attention on top emerging accounts
Evaluates and shares market outlook, growth drivers, regulations, and funding sources with key account leaders and operational leadership
Delivers private sector sustainability and resilience sales target
Develops relationship with operational leadership and advises them of opportunities and resourcing needs
Instigates cross‑business line teaming, coordination, cross‑selling
Additional Responsibilities
Advances the strategic direction of the organization and positions WSP for sustained and continued growth consistent with the strategic plan
Leverages our broad technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings
Fosters the development of new and emerging innovations to remain the trusted thought leaders in our industry
Encourages, supports, and promotes the technical and professional development of all staff within WSP USA
Leverages existing sustainability and resilience clients for organic growth and internal collaboration
People & Culture Responsibilities
Inspires, motivates, and promotes the best of WSP to our clients and communities to ensure strong employee engagement and morale
Attracts the best industry talent by fostering a work environment that is collaborative, values inclusion and diversity and invites broad, creative thinking – crafting a more attractive place to work, grow and thrive
Provides mentorship in strategic planning, market development and client engagement
Collaborates with E&E regional leaders and national peers to build meaningful alliances for the benefit of all business lines

Operational Excellence Responsibilities
Develops realistic market growth strategy based on industry trends and prioritizes annual investments that elevate the firm’s sustainability and resilience brand in terms of client solutions, innovation, and operational effectiveness
Collaborates with E&E leaders to develop a growth forecast and business development strategies aligned with the US strategic plan
Seeks opportunities for innovations and automation that improve and streamline processes and drive increased profitability
Focuses on innovation and enhancing health & safety, quality, and sustainable standards
Enhances WSP’s ability to deliver high‑quality, sustainable projects for clients by bringing the best tools and practices available to the market
Key performance indicators include organic growth, pipeline development, backlog growth, operation margin, inclusion & diversity and guiding principles
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field (Masters preferred) and/or business management
15+ years’ experience in A/E/C industry, with national experience in the sustainability and resilience market
Visible industry leader nationally in the sustainability and resilience marketplace with existing client and partner relationships and ability to develop new ones
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement national and regional strategies that result in strategic investment and lead to organic growth
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to build a pipeline of project opportunities, lead client engagement planning, and lead pursuit teams to successful sales
Driven yet empathetic leader, with experience working with diverse and independent teams dispersed across the US
Ability to successfully navigate multi‑dimensional organizations to bring new resources, innovations, ideas, and best practices to clients
Demonstrated experience in leadership, personal accountability, and persistence
Strong business acumen with an aptitude for improving processes and experience with change management
Commitment to internal and external client service and broad knowledge of and experience with technical and project delivery
Strong budget management / enterprise business aptitude

Compensation Expected salary (all locations): $175,400 – $320,900. The compensation range that WSP USA believes it might pay is based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, skills and internal equity.
