Northeastern REMC is a fully vertically integrated utility that purchases power on the open market, hedges its portfolio with several counterparties, and maintains a significant asset base of behind‑the‑meter assets capable of supplying 38% of our own peak energy needs. The CFO will provide strategic financial leadership, oversee all financial operations, and ensure alignment with the cooperative’s mission to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable electric service.
Job Summary The CFO is a key member of the executive leadership team responsible for financial planning, treasury management, credit risk, accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and board/CEO advisory. The role requires exceptional technical proficiency in credit risk evaluation, commodity hedging, capital structure management, financial planning and analysis, and treasury and liquidity management.
Base Pay Range $190,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in finance
Master’s degree in finance or business administration
7‑10 years of progressive responsibility including management
Experience with M&A or direct interaction with power markets
Skills and Competencies
Deep knowledge of financial principles, accounting standards, and best practices for financial management
Proficiency in evaluating counterparty default risk and creditworthiness
Extensive knowledge of commodity hedging strategies and products
Understanding of regulatory frameworks, compliance requirements, and reporting obligations
Proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support strategic decisions
Expertise in cost analysis, cost‑saving initiatives, and operational efficiency improvements
Familiarity with GAAP and IFRS and ability to prepare accurate financial statements
Risk assessment and internal control implementation to safeguard financial assets
Capital planning and investment analysis, including financial feasibility studies
Debt financing and capital structure optimization, maintaining relationships with lenders and institutions
Advanced financial analysis and data interpretation skills
Experience with ERP systems, analytics tools, and financial software
Leadership and team development, including performance management and coaching
Strong verbal and written communication, translating complex financial data for diverse audiences
Strategic collaboration with executive leadership on long‑term financial strategy
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and adapt to change
High ethical standards, integrity, and confidentiality
Professional development commitment and staying current with industry trends
Negotiation and relationship building with stakeholders, regulators, and vendors

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct monthly risk analysis and stress testing of financial forecasts
Determine and document unsecured credit limits and collateral thresholds for counterparties
Review and approve credit trading restrictions for counterparties
Supervise the finance and accounting team to meet goals, schedule tasks, and maintain compliance
Evaluate investment opportunities and conduct financial feasibility studies for capital projects
Develop, maintain, and implement the annual budget and financial projections
Lead performance reviews and job evaluations, including coaching and discipline when needed
Provide leadership, guidance, and motivation to staff; support professional development
Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts for decision‑making
Act as hiring manager for the department, working with HR for new hires
Manage debt financing, optimize capital structure, and maintain lender relationships
Monitor cash flow, develop projections, and manage working capital for operations and capital investments
Stay updated on regulatory frameworks and compliance obligations for cooperatives
Coordinate external audits, maintain internal controls, and ensure accounting standard compliance
Develop and implement long‑term financial strategies aligned with the cooperative’s mission and objectives
Work Environment
In‑office at NREMC headquarters, Columbia City, IN
Occasional travel for conferences, continuing education, and other requirements
