Speech Language Pathologist Shirley Ryan AbilityLab seeks a dedicated Speech Language Pathologist to evaluate and treat patients with communication disorders and provide pain education and management as needed. This role supports a multidisciplinary team and records comprehensive clinical data.

Responsibilities

Evaluate patients’ speech, language, and swallowing abilities to formulate and conduct treatment plans designed to improve communicative efficiency.

Establish individualized patient treatment goals based on needs and capabilities.

Review patient charts, interview patients and families, and consult with physicians, audiologists, and other clinical professionals to assess patient condition.

Counsel patients, family members, and significant others regarding communication deficits and teach proper management techniques.

Monitor patient progress, re-establish goals, revise treatment plans, and alert physicians to changes in patient condition.

Assess patients’ current pain levels (0‑10), provide pain education and intervention in consultation with physicians and pain specialists, and implement pain management tools.

Maintain clinical records, including diagnostic reports, progress reports, discharge summaries, re-evaluations, and rechecks; summarize family and professional contact and log daily statistics and other clinical data.

Attend patient team conferences, clinics, in-service education classes, and meetings to gather and share patient/treatment information.

Perform other duties as assigned that benefit the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the assigned Clinical Manager, Therapy Manager‑Innovation Center, or Therapy Manager‑AbilityLab.

Qualifications

Master’s or doctoral degree in Speech‑Language Pathology from an ASHA-accredited program.

Clinical Specialty Recognition by ASHA or certification in neurological communication disorders by the Academy of Neurological Communication Disorders and Sciences (desired).

Current Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA.

Current Illinois license as Speech‑Language Pathologist or temporary license during Clinical Fellowship Year.

Current CPR certification.

Completion of SRAIS training programs and utilization of SRAIS in job duties.

Understanding of growth and development across all patient age groups.

Ability to interpret developmental information to meet patient needs.

Effective interpersonal skills for communication with patients, families, physicians, audiologists, and related professionals.

Analytical skills for administering and evaluating standardized speech/language tests, developing treatment plans, and monitoring progress.

Commitment to the Code of Ethics established by ASHA.

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently for patient transfer and positioning.

Benefits and Pay Pay Range:

$68,000.00 – $120,000.00 annually

Working Conditions

Normal office environment with minimal exposure to dust or extreme temperatures.

Some exposure to infectious diseases when working with patients.

Possible exposure in community, home, work, school, and off‑site clinic settings.

Includes Saturday and Sunday shifts.
