Position Summary & Location As a Senior Design Engineer, you will lead electro‑mechanical product development from concept through production, including new product development, sustaining, and field issue resolution.

Responsibilities include design, redesign, part assembly, detailed part drawings, prototyping, testing, and sample assembly.

The position is based in Des Plaines, IL.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead various aspects of the design process, including part geometry, assembly design and drawing generation.

Develop and circulate engineering data such as Engineering Change Notices, bills of material and parts tracking documentation.

Collaborate with manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors to maintain smooth production flows.

Conduct pilot/pre‑production runs and participate in team meetings using the product delivery system (stage gate).

Initiate and develop concepts for new products from Project Charters, Specifications Matrix and other sources.

Ensure concepts are compatible with standard manufacturing methods used in the facility.

Continuously improve productivity, quality, purchasing and manufacturing processes through sourcing new or alternate processes, equipment and training resources.

Submit test requests and engage with the testing group; submit prototyping requests and work with the model shop for prototypes and sample assembly.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 3–5 years of experience.

Demonstrated understanding of engineering fundamentals.

Effective verbal, written, sketch and engineering drawing communication.

Proficient use of 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and PLM software (preferably Windchill) and Microsoft Office.

Knowledge of manufacturing methods such as stamping, drawing, casting and extruding metals and plastics.

Ability to influence and enlist cooperation of other team members to meet new product development schedules and budgets.

Knowledge of UL / CSA and testing processes is a plus.

Understanding of industry and safety standards.

Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly.

Availability to travel up to 5% of the time (domestic and international).

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities

Relevant industry experience in product design and development.

Experience working cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced environment.

Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.

Salary & Benefits Base salary range: $91,400 – $164,400 annually, depending on experience and location.
