Position Summary Sam’s Club Membership Lifecycle Engineering powers the end-to-end member journey - Join, Engage, Renew and Grow across web, app, and club experiences. The platform spans five core domains: Member Profile, Subscriptions & Renewals, Growth, Platform & Integrations, and Data & Insights. We build and evolve a modern membership stack (API Gateway, GraphQL, orchestration, eventing, data pipelines, observability) for reliability, scale, developer velocity, and an AI/agent-ready future.

What You'll Do

Set the target architecture across lifecycle domains (Profile & Access; Subscriptions & Renewals; Growth & Credit; Platform & Integrations), including reference architectures, guardrails, and roadmap for an AI/agent-ready platform.

Modernize core membership services (GraphQL, gateway, orchestration, eventing; PCI-aware billing/retry flows) to unlock modern and flexible membership modeling while improving uptime and cost efficiency.

Raise reliability & speed by defining SLAs/SLOs and engineering KPIs (DORA, SRE: lead time, deploy frequency, CFR, MTTR), driving resiliency patterns, and championing observability and data quality.

Accelerate growth experimentation by shaping APIs, data contracts, and experimentation hooks that enable rapid A/Bs and lifecycle optimization (join/renewal/churn).

Influence and up-level the org via deep design reviews, technical stewardship, and mentorship of Staff/Principal Engineers and EMs – multiplying impact across 5–6 coherent domains.

What You'll Bring

Proven large-scale platform design: microservices and event-driven systems, GraphQL/gateway patterns, and high-throughput, low-latency membership/identity or subscription platforms.

Subscriptions/payments acumen: recurring payments/billing, retries, renewals, and revenue-retention mechanics; pragmatic automation at scale.

Reliability & velocity leadership: measurable improvements to SLAs/SLOs and DORA/SRE metrics via architecture, automation, and operational excellence.

Data & experimentation fluency: contract-first data, quality governance, and patterns that enable trustworthy measurement and faster iteration.

Executive-level influence: clear storytelling that ties architecture to business KPIs (join rate, renewal rate, churn) and aligns cross-functional stakeholders.
