What To Expect Our team is at the nexus of different products, systems, and subsystems for Vehicles, Energy Products, and Robotics. We investigate abusive field conditions and physics to guide the design of our products to lead the industry in dealing with these extreme scenarios. This Engineer will perform investigations into novel technical issues across a wide variety of systems, working with cross-functional teams to quickly understand root causes of failures, inform mitigation strategies, and feedback understandings into new designs.
What You'll Do
Investigate and identify root causes of technical issues across various systems, sub-components, and firmware, including batteries in vehicles, energy products, and robotics
Recreate abusive conditions and failure modes to validate theories about system properties
Develop and validate mitigations for identified issues while coordinating interdisciplinary product improvement implementations
Establish internal standards and processes to enhance the safety of Tesla products
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate findings and improvements into new designs
Provide technical insights to guide design decisions under extreme field conditions
What You'll Bring
Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
Solid understanding of thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties
Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups
Practical, hands‑on approach with a proactive attitude
Experience in failure analysis is a plus
Background in lithium‑ion, automotive, or grid‑scale energy storage is a plus
Willingness to travel approximately 5% of the time

Compensation $80,000 - $174,000 annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
