Senior Principal Process Engineer Freeport LNG is seeking a Senior Principal Process Engineer who will serve as the primary technical expert contact for all matters related to process technology employed at FLNG. The role involves providing Operations, Maintenance, Production Planning and other business departments with LNG process expertise to ensure process safety risks are identified and appropriately managed, asset and operating integrity requirements are developed, implemented and maintained, environmental emissions are minimized, and process systems performance and efficiency are maximized in compliance with all established contracts, agreements, policies, laws and regulatory procedures.

The position will also liaise and participate in the development of LNG capital and brownfield projects in areas of concept development, process comparison, detailed engineering, and operational flexibility.

Additional responsibilities include keeping abreast of new technology and engineering developments, liaising with industry vendors and SMEs, providing strategic advice to the executive team, facilitating and participating in RCAs, supporting process testing, ensuring safety and environmental compliance, and coaching and mentoring process engineers.

Location/Travel Information Currently based in Freeport, TX, with plans to relocate to our headquarters in Downtown Houston in Q2 2026. Frequent travel to company facilities in Freeport and other off‑site locations is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Handles complex LNG process engineering work and all aspects of the job, providing subject matter authority for Process Engineering.

Provides process engineering governance at each project phase to meet Company Assurance requirements.

Independently develops Process Monitoring tools that monitor process efficiency and make improvement recommendations.

Reviews and provides feedback to Site Process Engineering Supervisors on frontline roles monitoring of the process units, product quality, production quantity, and operations proficiency.

Mentors and coaches across engineering and operations to make system optimization and improvement recommendations, including troubleshooting process issues and concerns.

Manages and coordinates technical improvements and expansion of the plant as required.

Develops, reviews, and runs computer process simulations in support of projects and troubleshooting.

Thoroughly understands the technical Management of Change (MOC) process and utilizes it in support of capital projects and routine facility changes.

Conducts Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) utilizing HAZOP methodologies.

Accountable for timely approval/closure of Engineering Service Requests (ESRs), MOCs, RCA reports/action items, and PHA action items related to Process.

Works as a team member in a multidisciplinary team to define problems, establish work scopes, plan work, provide technical direction, and report status to management.

Participates in Pre‑Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).

Ensures regulatory inspections and documentation requirements are achieved and audit ready.

Develops process basis, preliminary estimates, and schedules for project design scopes.

Supports equipment criticality/risk analysis efforts and validates equipment‑sparing strategy.

Reports on process surveillance/reliability KPIs.

Interacts with engineering management to develop weekly reports and tracking of risks to the facility.

Facilitates incident investigation to analyze equipment and system failures and provide solutions and corrective actions.

Develops or updates FLNG’s corporate engineering standards.

Benchmarks and drives FLNG operations with best industry practices and develops plans to achieve excellence.

Represents FLNG in Industry Engineering Forums/Programs and various functions when required.

Reinforces safety and environmental awareness through frequent job observations and interfacing with plant personnel.

Interacts with and supports Production Planning, Commercial Operations, Regulatory, Legal, and other departments as required.

May provide input in setting objectives and policy, identifying critical issues, and introducing new concepts.

Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Essential Functions

Education, Certification, and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering

Minimum Experience Required

20+ years of relevant experience.

In‑depth knowledge of engineering theories and principles in LNG liquefaction export processes.

Detail‑oriented, professional, and reliable.

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.

Strong organizational and time‑management skills.

Priority setting to meet deadlines.

Knowledge of engineering fundamentals across multiple disciplines.

Expertise in process engineering.

Proficiency in HYSIS/Unisim Process simulation applications.

Independent initiation and execution of complex initiatives.

Recognized thought‑leader in the industry.

Professional office environment with occasional control room, field, or enclosure exposure.

Ability to use standard office equipment and field communications equipment.

Ability to wear necessary PPE including fire‑resistant clothing and hearing protection.

Exposure to moving mechanical equipment and electrical circuits.

Tolerance for high noise levels.

Physical Demands

Lift up to 20 lbs. as required for files, boxes, and office equipment.

Lift files, open filing cabinets, stand on a stool, and climb as necessary.

Drive to other company work locations as required.

Stand and/or sit continuously for a full shift.

Use hands to reach and manipulate objects up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

Perform tasks requiring close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Transportation Worker Identification Card (current or ability to obtain one).

HS&E Roles and Responsibilities Support the policies, efforts, and programs of the Freeport LNG HS&E Management System, including implementation of RAGAGEP requirements for fixed assets. Actively participate in the HS&E Management System policies, including Management of Change. Ensure HS&E concerns are prioritized in all activities. Implement routine inspections to maintain safe operating conditions.
