Overview

This role performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures on patients using high‑field magnets. The technologist works under the guidance of radiologists, participates in resident training, and is responsible for billing all procedures and maintaining paperwork.

What You Will Do

Assist in training radiology students, house staff, or others in MRI procedures, protocols, and safety. Bills all procedures performed and maintains necessary paperwork. Obtains quality images for medical diagnosis by performing MRI procedures directed by a physician. Performs and remains current on all scanning protocols. Evaluates MRI scans for technical quality, collates processed images, sequences exposure, and labels appropriately. Prepares patients for MRI exam: explains procedure, ensures that patient screening form is properly completed, safely transfers patient to MRI equipment, properly positions patient, assists patient on completion of exam; completes exams in the required timeframe. Troubleshoots equipment problems and reports to proper personnel for repair. Utilizes ancillary equipment appropriately: PACS system, laser camera, MedRad power injector, IDXRad, and Invivo monitor.

Education

Completion of an accredited Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) program or Radiologic technology program.

Experience

One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse groups. Follow written and oral instructions. Perform general and specialized radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures meeting departmental quality standards. Document and communicate equipment problems. Work effectively as a team player. Knowledge of computer systems used in functional area. Knowledge of magnetic resonance imaging physics, physiology and anatomy. Knowledge of MRI techniques, methods, and equipment. Knowledge of medical equipment, instruments, and related functionalities. Knowledge of positioning patients for imaging procedures. Knowledge of image processing and development applicable to diagnostic imaging. Knowledge of safety procedures related to imaging equipment.

Licenses and Certifications

BLS – Basic Life Support. And, one of the following certifications: ARMRIT, ARRT, or CRT.

Compensation

Base pay: $69.10–$77.81 per hour. Salary may be adjusted based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
