Overview New York University’s Counseling and Wellness Services is seeking to hire a per diem psychiatrist for 14 hours/week. The ideal candidates are mission-focused team players, flexible with time and locations, proactive, creative in problem-solving, quality focused, and committed to serving underrepresented populations, particularly communities of color. An appreciation of the developmental psychological issues of transitional age youth in a collegiate setting is a prerequisite. This position reports to the Counseling and Wellness Services in the NYU Student Health Center and is part of the Psychiatric Services unit within NYU Student Affairs.

Position Responsibilities Provide clinical assessment and state‑of‑the‑art pharmacological treatment to a diverse student population; offer consultation to clinical staff regarding psychiatric status of students in crisis; assess functional ability in an academic setting; provide supervision for psychiatric residents and mentorship for medical students; participate in training and professional development activities; offer crisis assessment and intervention services; practice in accordance with appropriate legal and ethical standards. Responsibilities also include assessing suicidal concerns, arranging for hospitalization when appropriate, formulating treatment plans, and providing psychiatric interventions that may include referral for long‑term treatment off campus.

Required Education & Qualifications

Education:

Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO); NYS license and DEA certification.

Qualifications:

Two years of clinical experience post‑graduation from a psychiatric residency training are required. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible with intent to become board certified. Completion of a psychiatric fellowship program is a plus. Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and experience working with underrepresented populations, particularly communities of color, is required. Experience working with diverse student populations is preferred.
