Serco‑NA has an opening for an Acoustic Engineer who will support the Acoustics Systems Integration Team within the PMS450 office of the VIRGINIA Class Submarine program. The engineer will provide technical and programmatic support to PMS450 and the U.S. Navy’s Team Submarine Program Offices at the Washington Navy Yard.
PMS450 is the acquisition office for new construction of Attack Submarines and manages the research, design, construction, testing, and delivery of the U.S. Navy’s newest nuclear‑powered attack submarines.
This is an opportunity to join our growing team and influence the Navy’s future premier attack submarine.
In this role, you will:
Support PMS450 evaluation of proposed designs and arrangements.
Maintain expert‑level knowledge of ship specification sections and interpretation of technical requirements and program compliance.
Review technical submittals, providing assessments of issues/recommendations and consolidating differing viewpoints.
Act as liaison with the “Red‑Box” Technical Warrant Holders and other PMS450 team members.
Have in‑depth knowledge of how submarine design aspects affect acoustic signature and how to minimize it.
Assist SDMs/DSDMs/MAITs in de‑conflicting technical viewpoints and program constraints.
Co‑lead NAVSEA Ship’s Silencing Working Group, including conducting audits and shipchecks to validate configuration.
Manage commitment updates and status.
Identify and resolve technical issues in your area with appropriate SITs.
Act as a primary customer contact, meeting regularly to update on project status.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with program managers and technical leads.
Lead program review sessions discussing cost, schedule, and performance.
Provide acquisition management planning and execution support.
Lead technical discussions for project reviews, preparing and delivering formal briefings.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
U.S. citizenship with a Secret clearance.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, technical, or related discipline and at least seven years of experience.
Ability to work independently under SOPs or specifications.
Effective teamwork skills.
Accountability and responsibility orientation.
Willingness to work outside of standard hours as required.
Adaptability to classified material and multiple engineering disciplines.
Excellent technical writing and detail orientation.
Up to 10% travel.
Additional desired skills and experience
Active duty experience in the submarine service.
Experience with Navy acquisition and/or in‑service programs.
Recent experience in Team Submarine.
