Serco . This position is onsite at the Washington, DC office and supports the U.S. Navy Team Submarine and the VIRGINIA Class Submarine Program Office (PMS450). Serco-NA is seeking a motivated individual to provide programmatic and technical support to Navy customers. This is an opportunity to contribute to the Navy\'s future premier attack submarine program and join a growing team to influence submarine design, construction, and fleet introduction. Note: This description reflects responsibilities and qualifications for a Senior Navy Structural Engineer supporting PMS450 and the VIRGINIA Class program within Team Submarine. Responsibilities

Provide engineering and technical support for the VIRGINIA Class program, including concept studies, feasibility studies, preliminary design, contract design, detail design and construction activities, independent design reviews, in-service ship design and engineering activities, shipboard installation support, and special studies related to ships, systems, and shipboard equipment. Maintain expert-level knowledge of ship specification sections and interpret technical requirements to verify program compliance. Review technical submittals, assess issues/recommendations, consolidate viewpoints, and define options with their pros and cons. Coordinate with relevant teams and systems under cognizance; assist SDMs/DSDMs/MAITs in resolving technical viewpoints and program constraints. Support development of SITs and junior personnel; manage project commitments, schedules, and status updates. Perform structural integrity analysis to ensure hulls, decks, bulkheads, and other critical structures meet safety and regulatory standards. Collaborate on material selection, ship stability analysis, and implementation of quality controls during construction. Propose structural modifications to enhance performance and integrate with naval architectures; interface with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless design integration. Provide technical authorization for VIRGINIA Class Structures during design, construction, and fleet introduction within the 05U5X Ship Design Manager scope. Lead and manage technical projects as assigned; establish relationships with SME leads, systems engineering specialists, ship designers, and fabrication trades to deliver cost-effective designs. Review technical products, coordinate with stakeholders, and document technical directions to contractors. Develop solutions to complex problems, anticipate trends, and explore new technologies or approaches. Analyze, research, and develop structural engineering specifications for metals, composites, and other materials; perform damage tolerance, durability, and structural modeling analyses (e.g., FEM) as required. Interface with NAVSEA, prime contractors, naval shipyards, and equipment vendors; communicate effectively and maintain program documentation. Maintain system diagrams and supporting calculations; prepare new construction test specifications and SMITE test/trial specifications; support first-of-class trials. Coordinate supplier technical management with procurement and manage changes via Enterprise Change Request processes. Qualifications

Active or current DoD Secret clearance or eligibility for a clearance. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred. 10–15+ years of professional experience as a Structural Analyst with expertise in naval/defense systems and design, R&D, T&E, and acquisition programs for Navy shipbuilding. Extensive knowledge of analytical structural methods for metallic and composite structures; experience developing FEM models for load development, part stress, and modal analysis. Ability to lead technical work across design, implementation, operation, and sustainment; act as technical owner for complex structural components and assemblies with stakeholder engagement and roadmap management. Strong communication skills; ability to mentor junior team members and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. Experience with Navy acquisition programs and submarine programs; knowledge of naval vessel structural design specifications and practices. Professional Engineer Certification; Proficiency with Microsoft Office; project management experience. Flexibility with job scope and schedules; strong problem-solving abilities. Desirable: NNPI account and CAC; 10+ years in Navy acquisition and submarine programs; experience leading projects and interfacing with end-item customers; knowledge of PM, budgeting, and Navy program execution. Active-duty submarine service experience preferred; recent Team Submarine experience ideal. Ability to travel up to ~10% and occasional travel outside DC area. Additional desired experience

SUBSAFE program knowledge; submarine engineering experience a plus. NAVSEA/SUPSHIP audit support experience preferred; review of design specifications and technical issue resolution. General knowledge of submarine deck structures, foundations, and platform arrangements; ability to apply technical principles with guidance. Experience working in DoD/DoN environments and with submarine acquisition programs; membership in SNAME or ASNE preferred. Proficient with CATIA/IDEAS/ProEngineer, Matlab/Simulink; strong technical writing and communications.
