Responsibilities

Lead by example in our Incident Free Culture.

Work 2x2 week rotation, while on shift on call for all emergencies.

Responsible for coordinating and safe execution of the emergency response training program that includes, but is not limited to, the following areas.

Fire Department Operations

Facility Emergencies

Structural Fire Suppression and related activities

Technical rescue practices

State of Alaska Firefighter I program.

Company level fire officer training

Medical emergency response

Oversee and coordinate operational readiness of all fire apparatus, tools, and support equipment.

Teach and coordinate Respiratory Inspection and Fire Extinguisher training classes.

Responsible for oversight of the respiratory service and maintenance program.

Participate in all emergency and non-emergency operations for the Fire Department and Rescue Team.

Assumes On-Scene Commander role for spill or hazardous materials events in the absence of the Emergency Services Chief.

Critical staff for NS wide Spill Response.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Legally authorized to work in the United States

Current, valid driver’s license

Associate’s degree in fire/EMS related field or equivalent

State of Alaska certified EMT II or higher level of licensing designation (or ability to obtain reciprocity)

Certified Firefighter I or higher (IFSAC/Pro Board)

3+ years of experience leading and motivating emergency response volunteers.

Minimum 5+ years of experience with EMS practices, safety requirements and best practices, the incident command system, NIMS, Emergency equipment, and training methods.

7+ years of progressively responsible fire and EMS service experience (Preferred)

Bachelor’s degree in fire, emergency management, EMS, or related field (Preferred)

Certified Fire Service Instructor I or higher (IFSAC/Pro Board) (Preferred)

Experience working with a career/volunteer combination department. (Preferred)

EMS patient care and transport experience with Paramedic preferred. (Preferred)

Training program developed and evaluation, assessment, planning strategies, and achieving performance results. (Preferred)

Certified Incident Safety Officer (Preferred)

Possess a “passion” for training with education, certification, and instructional credentials that demonstrate this. (Preferred)

Demonstrated skills to maintain and present all manner of data, records, and reports. (Preferred)

Takes accountability for actions and follows through on commitments. (Preferred)

Actively communicates and takes time to safely perform work to protect our people and environment. (Preferred)

Mentors, coaches and develops others to bring out their full potential. (Preferred)

Build positive relationships across organizations that foster a strong work environment. (Preferred)
