Job Summary Assistant Vice President, Events is a key driver behind GW’s high‑profile and strategic events. This role brings together executive leaders, senior volunteers, distinguished alumni, and campus partners to create memorable experiences that advance the university’s mission. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Engagement & Annual Giving, you will shape events that reflect institutional priorities, strengthen high‑level relationships, and showcase GW at its best.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute strategic planning and oversight of university and leadership events, including high‑level events within University Advancement and the Office of the President.

Determine, direct, and implement all aspects of major university events, including programming, staffing, and creative execution.

Provide budget management, monitor expenses, and produce post‑event analysis to assess success, gather feedback, and implement improvements.

Oversee teams responsible for executing Advancement & University events on and off campus, ensuring logistical, technical and financial operations meet expectations.

Collaborate with Advancement senior staff and university officials on initiatives and strategic priorities related to events.

Perform other duties as assigned that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and at least 10 years of relevant professional experience, or Master’s degree or higher in a related field.

• At least 2 years of senior leadership/executive level experience.

• Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to lead teams and build strong relationships with campus partners.

Expertise in managing complex projects from start to finish.

Experience with cross‑functional collaboration to cultivate relationships with donors, alumni, and other key stakeholders.

Proficiency in managing large budgets.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong ability to assess complex situations and make decisions under tight deadlines.

Ability to develop innovative and engaging event concepts.

Familiarity with event management software and virtual event platforms.

Familiarity with expectations and staffing for high‑profile events, including Trustees, key donors, and alumni leaders.

Ability to travel to support events and university leadership as necessary.

Hiring Range $105,123.50 – $176,607.48

Job Details • Campus Location: Foggy Bottom, Washington, D.C.

• College/School/Department: University Advancement

• Full‑Time: Yes, 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm, occasional weekends.

• Work Schedule: On‑site required, hybrid telework available.
