Final pay is based on experience and region.
Purpose The Pilot in Command functions as a member of the critical care transport team. The Pilot in Command is responsible for all aspects of safe aircraft operation on all flights released and operated by the STAT MedEvac system. Responsibilities include ensuring aircraft airworthiness, currency of all FAA‑required qualifications and publications, and safe conduct of flight operations in accordance with CEM policies, procedures and FAA regulations. The Pilot in Command executes independent judgment to provide the safest and most efficient air transportation of CEM patients in a highly challenging operating environment, while sharing responsibility as part of a team.
Responsibilities
Report for work well rested and fit for duty.
Adhere to the drug and alcohol policy and all FAA requirements.
Report for duty in sufficient time to perform all duties required to accept a flight and receive a release number no later than the beginning of the scheduled shift.
Coordinate with flight followers regarding currency, duty time, aircraft and weather status; confirm NOTAMS, update weather status as necessary, and ensure all regulatory requirements for duty day and crew rest are met; debrief flight followers as necessary.
Respond promptly and efficiently to all requests for service, with highest consideration given to safety of flight.
Support continuity of service through flexibility in scheduling and base assignments and assist with coverage both at assigned base and system wide.
Actively participate in development of the CEM safety culture; ensure safety of all patients and personnel functioning in and around the aircraft.
Utilize appropriate safety channels to report safety concerns and tools to enhance a safe work environment.
Complete all official documentation accurately and in a timely manner, including payroll, expense reports, training forms etc.
Complete all post‑flight record‑keeping accurately and in a timely fashion, including filing hazard or incident reports, ASAP reports, etc.; ensure familiarity with appropriate software/hardware for required tasks.
Possess thorough knowledge of the STAT MedEvac policies and procedures and assist in meeting operational goals and objectives.
Provide adequate notice of requested PTO, trade days, etc. to ensure schedule coverage; maintain ultimate responsibility for coverage of assigned shifts.
Select and use personal protective equipment appropriate to the hazard level.
Perform assigned duties, including daily, weekly, monthly, or other duties assigned by the Base Site Manager‑Aviation.
Maintain fitness for duty by adhering to all employee health requirements, including maximum weight, hearing conservation program and required medical certifications.
Report injuries and complete appropriate documentation promptly, no matter how minor.
Conduct all flights in a manner that safe completion is never in doubt; ensure timely transmission of required flight manifest information; obtain flight releases; adhere to CEM policies and procedures for flight conduct; operate without regulatory violations and exercise PIC emergency authority as required.
Demonstrate and maintain competency, proficiency and knowledge required to perform as PIC; successfully complete all check rides and recurrent training without retraining to standard; perform a minimum of three practice instrument approaches per month (weather permitting) in addition to IIMC and other training approaches.
Conduct shift‑change briefs with assigned medical crew members, including assignment of inflight duties, weather status, pre‑assigned duties and abort policy; ensure currency of airline training; encourage participation in crew post‑flight debriefings.
Maintain current flight kits, documentation and training records in accordance with company policy; ensure all navigation publications are current; ensure pilot qualifications are current and documented.
Ensure assigned aircraft is airworthy; document maintenance events; perform thorough pre‑flight/post‑flight inspections; maximize operational readiness by ensuring sufficient fuel/O₂; keep aircraft clean and properly secured.
Function as a professional development resource/mentor for newly hired pilots; assist as necessary in the IPC process.
Protect patient privacy in accordance with STAT MedEvac privacy policies and applicable laws.
Reflect a positive attitude toward customers at all times in a high‑stress environment.
Adhere to uniform policy and personal appearance standards.
Demonstrate ability to establish rapport with customers; create and sustain positive relationships, including during site visits and PR events.
Requirements: 2,000 total flight hours, 1,500 helicopter flight hours, 1,000 PIC helicopter flight hours, 200 night flight hours (minimum 100 unaided), 100 instrument hours, 500 turbine hours.
Licensure, Certifications, & Clearances
Commercial rotorcraft‑helicopter certificate with instrument rating required.
Current second‑class medical license required.
Valid and current state driver’s license required.
Airline Transport Pilot certificate (not limited to VFR) preferred.
Experience in helicopter EMS transport system preferred.
Four‑year degree with aviation applications preferred.
Commercial Pilot License (CPL).
Act 34 (if applicable).
