Overview

Additional information can be found at: DCHR Benefits. Position: Helicopter Pilot – Special Operations Division, Homeland Security Bureau (HSB). Primary duty is to operate an Airbus AS350B3 helicopter to support law enforcement missions including aerial surveillance, search and rescue, traffic monitoring, and real‑time tactical support to law enforcement units. Responsibilities

Command the aircraft as Pilot‑in‑Command (PIC) during high‑risk missions, ensuring safe operation and interpreting weather reports to determine flight routes. Assist ground units with airborne support for patrol, search and rescue, surveillance and information gathering. Execute flights in complex Class B, Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) and Flight Restricted Zone (FRZ) airspace with enhanced security protocols and FAA coordination. Conduct day‑time and night‑time missions using NVG and FLIR systems to search for suspects and missing persons. Transport personnel and equipment for specialized missions including Emergency Response Team (ERT), K‑9, Dive Team and crime scene search. Provide live video downlink to the Joint Operations Command Center (JOCC) and other command centers. Maintain written and computerized flight logs and pilot records in compliance with FAA regulations and unit SOPs. Communicate with air traffic control, Transportation Security Administration and other agencies to coordinate pursuits and traffic observations. Testify in a court of law as required and perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

FAA Commercial Rotor‑Craft Pilot License with an Instrument Rating (must provide proof). FAA 2nd Class or higher Medical Certification (must provide proof). Current FAA Flight Review in Rotor‑Wing Aircraft. Valid motor vehicle driver’s license. Experience operating in Class B or restricted airspace. Experience

1000 hours in a rotor‑wing aircraft as PIC, including 120 hours in the last 12 months and 200 hours as PIC during night conditions (must provide pilot logbook). Must undergo all required FAA and aircraft‑manufacture training at department expense. Work Environment

The helicopter operation involves hazards requiring constant monitoring of aircraft systems and situational awareness during flight operations. Security Screening
