WHO WE ARELOOKING FOR The Office of the County Attorney iscurrently recruitingforan experienced full-time attorneyto lead its LitigationDivisionof approximately 10 attorneys and paralegals.The ideal candidate willpossess: Ability to manage and mentor a team of 10 attorneys and paralegals
Ability tosuccessfully handlea diverse caseload independently and efficiently
Exceptional research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while alsodemonstratinginitiative and self-motivation
Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly and persuasively
Strong negotiation and alternative dispute resolution skills
Acommitment to professionalism, ethics, and client service
The primary responsibilities of the position are: Overseeing the work of the division and supervising attorneys, paralegals, and other staff
providinglegal advice on liability matters to the Director of Finance and the Chief of the Risk Management Division, as well as other County departments and other local government entitiesparticipatingin the Self-Insurance Program
representingthe County and other Self-Insurance Program participants and their employees before state and federal courts
Education- Graduation from an accredited university school of law. Experience:Seven years of progressively responsible professional experience as an attorney, three of which were in a supervisory or executive capacity. License -Membership in the Maryland State Bar. Note: There will be no substitutions for this section. Equivalency- None All Applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated “Qualified,” placed on the Referred List, and may be considered for an interview. Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following: Experience successfully supervising and mentoring a team of attorneys and other para-professional staff
Experience in the areas of law handled by the Division, particularly civil defensetrial workwith an emphasis on government practice
Trial skills and experience
Knowledge of local government law
Organizationalskills
Ability to cope with exposure to difficult subject matters
Ability to deal with people effectively in difficult high stress circumstances
Ability to work collaboratively and on a team.
