Operating Engineer - Swing Shift 3:30 PM – 11:30 PM swing shift. Responsible for efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems at the assigned facility. Typically the sole engineer on site, often supervising maintenance staff as needed.

Responsibilities

Assist with or conduct daily operations and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems and general building requirements.

Supervise and assign maintenance staff when applicable.

Perform preventive maintenance: filter changes, motor lubrication, lamp/ballast/fixture replacement, belt inspection and adjustment, motor bearing replacement, shaft alignment, and other manufacturer‑recommended tasks.

Recommend ongoing improvements to the preventive maintenance program.

Develop and maintain building‑specific maintenance procedures.

Coordinate efforts with outside contractors and technicians.

Maintain stock and inventory control.

Respond immediately to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure, etc.) and customer concerns.

Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, and company directives relating to building operations.

Compile and submit monthly reports to inform management of current operations.

Complete required C&W safety training annually.

Comply with the C&W uniform dress code and maintain a neat appearance while on the property.

Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Graduate of an apprentice program or trade school preferred.

Experience

5+ years of related trade experience operating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in a commercial property setting.

Eligibility Qualifications

Appropriate license/permit for trade (e.g., Journeyman/Master Electrician, City licenses, Operators, Steam Engineers).

Valid “Universal” level certification for CFC and HFC refrigerants (EPA Section 608).

Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Experience in operation, maintenance, and basic repair of HVAC, boilers, heaters, pumps, refrigerant systems, compressors, and water systems.

Knowledgeable in energy management systems, techniques, and operations.

Comprehensive knowledge of building systems operation, maintenance, and repair.

Work Environment This role operates primarily in a professional office environment using standard office equipment. Travel between properties in varying weather conditions is required.

Physical Demands

Stooping, standing, climbing, and lifting equipment up to 50 lbs.

Crouching and reaching to install or move equipment.

Movement between departments, floors, and properties.

Clear verbal and written communication.

Regular use of vision for reading printed material, drawings, and schematics.

Shift Differentials

Swing shift (6:00 PM–12:00 AM): $1.50 per hour (effective 1 Sept 2026, $2.50).

Graveyard shift (12:00 AM–6:00 AM): $1.75 per hour (effective 1 Sept 2026, $2.75).

Differentials apply to all hours worked, including holiday, vacation, sick leave, and funeral leave pay; they do not apply to paid vacation or sick pay cash outs.

Benefits and Compensation Eligible employees may enroll in health, vision, dental insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life, and disability insurance programs, and paid/unpaid leave. Compensation will vary based on location, experience, and collective bargaining agreements. Minimum wage will not be paid below. Offered salary range: $61.99 – $72.93 per hour.
