UC San Diego Health . This position reports to the Employee Relations Director within Health Human Resources (HHR) and supports employee relations programs across UC San Diego Health. Responsibilities
Apply advanced employee relations concepts to investigate formal and informal employee complaints (including whistleblower / UC hotline complaints) and develop recommendations on the organization\'s response. May conduct highly sensitive termination interviews, analyze separation statistics, and recommend actions. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements to minimize liability. Provide advice and counsel to managers on performance management, organizational changes, workplace climate, and related areas. Determine appropriate levels of corrective action and discipline up to termination. Respond to employee relations issues in accordance with state and federal laws and union/labor contracts; coordinate complex analyses and recommend integrated HR solutions. Advise assigned client groups on complex employee relations issues and respond to EEOC inquiries as needed. Collaborate with diverse cultures to provide employee relations support. Administer and interpret labor/union contracts. Prioritize work, adapt to changing priorities, and conduct analyses to develop recommendations. Review and analyze a variety of HR issues, such as policy revisions and internal procedures. Coordinate with Office of General Counsel and outside counsel on employment litigation; serve as liaison between management and counsel. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Seven years of direct employee relations experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus three years of direct employee relations experience/training. Proven knowledge of the employee relations field. Experience and success performing employee relations functions, ideally in a large, complex organization. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present analyses and recommendations to leadership. Strong knowledge of applicable federal and state labor laws and regulations. Thorough knowledge of administering labor/union contracts, dispute resolution, grievance procedures, and mediation processes. Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills; proficient computer skills. Ability to handle extremely sensitive or volatile situations with discretion and confidentiality. High level of personal accountability and integrity. Preferred Qualifications
University of California experience. SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification. Special Conditions
