We are currently seeking a Construction Accountant. This position will manage all aspects of accounting including budgeting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, general ledger activities, job cost analysis and work in process reporting.
The Construction Accountant reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for all project related accounting functions across single or multiple projects. This role is responsible for all fiscal compliance, policy and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Interface with CEO and senior management on all aspects of project construction accounting. Assisting the CEO, to prepare cash flows, budgets, projections etc.
Assists with the monthly financial close process including standard journal entries, balance sheet, cash flow and P&L reviews.
Assists with preparation of financial statements.
Completes monthly accruals, variance analysis and account reconciliations.
Responsible for the review, verification and processing of all subcontractor and general condition related payments associated with assigned projects.
Responsive and attentive to the requests/needs of internal and external clients – including vendors and subcontractors.
Collaborate with the project team in the monitoring and review of all project billing proofs, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
Communicates with project team, vendors, subcontractors and external parties to manage job cost requests/requirements, including waivers of lien, insurance and any additional contractually required documents necessary to invoice clients or pay vendors.
Assists with job closeout process by verifying that outstanding costs have been recorded; final owner billings are issued; assists with collection of final billings, determines when jobs can be closed in systems.
Following the procedure established by the company to evaluate project results regarding schedule, costs, client relationships, quality, activities and other performance. Supervising the accounting staff.
4-year accounting degree or Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business discipline required.
Prior accounting experience, preferably within the construction sector desired but not required.
Ability to present written communication in a clear and informative manner and have strong oral communication skills necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to use relevant accounting software and reporting systems required. Qualified applicants will have the ability to multi‑task and have exceptional attention to detail. Candidates must be interested in working in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
A strong work ethic and a “can‑do” attitude
Excellent listening skills and have strong communication skills
Ability to identify and resolve complex issues & work in a fast paced environment
Ability to work as a team player and independently
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, CMiC
Previous experience in Project Management Experience a plus
Preferred Skills
Analyzing constructional information for producing forecasts about business, economic and industry conditions for undertaking construction activity.
Assembling spreadsheets and drawing graphs and charts for illustrating construction, technical and associated reports.
