Position Summary The Financial Lead provides analytic support to capital investment analysis and review, risk identification and evaluation as well as finance performance. As part of the Strategic Finance team you will build and maintain the SJI strategic operating model (5-year plan) working closely with business partners and other finance teams, and support investments and acquisitions to grow our portfolio of development‑stage and operating assets. These acquisitions will range from new, or operating solar, fuel cell, renewable natural gas, and other energy transition assets. Your responsibilities will include financial modeling to assess risk and return of potential investments, transaction diligence, strategizing on how to optimize investments, deal structuring, and market intelligence monitoring.
Essential Functions Strategic Operating Model
Drive ongoing development and enhancement of the utility strategic operating model (5‑year model)
Spearhead the effort to reduce results variability, analyzing root causes and driving forecasting improvements.
Oversight of long‑term financial metrics, analyses and sensitivities.
Energy Transition Investments
Partner with the business to develop financial models to assess risk and return of potential investments including sensitivity analysis, scenario analyses and potential capital structures (project finance, tax equity, etc.).
Work closely with Tax, Treasury and Accounting to ensure correct understanding and modeling of assumptions including tax incentives, potential funding options and other key critical inputs.
Collaborate with business partners to guide investments through the investment approval process including preparation of investment memos.
Analyze research data and synthesize raw information into insights and recommendations; participate in due diligence to identify all details of potential investment projects.
Prepare “look back” analyses to assess achievement of forecasted business plan for approved projects.
Qualifications Required Background
Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience, or;
Master’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience.
Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Ability to be within a commutable distance to Folsom, NJ to attend important meetings/events as needed.
