Position Summary The
Director of Individual Giving
is a key member of the Resource Development (RD) Team, responsible for developing, implementing, and expanding the organization’s individual giving program to achieve a
20% year-over-year increase
in donor acquisition, retention, and revenue. Reporting directly to the
Chief Development Officer (CDO) , this role manages a robust portfolio of individual and major donors, cultivates meaningful relationships, and builds a sustainable pipeline that fuels the mission of the
Boys & Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic (BGCPP) .
The Director will work closely with the CDO, CEO, Board of Directors, and RD Committee to align fundraising efforts with the organization’s strategic vision — ensuring that every gift is stewarded with integrity, gratitude, and measurable impact.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Growth
Develop and implement a comprehensive annual individual giving strategy that drives a
20% increase in total individual giving revenue .
Partner with the CDO to set quarterly and annual benchmarks, donor goals, and performance metrics.
Lead segmentation and engagement strategies to expand donor base under $50K and major donor portfolio $50K+.
Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to ensure donor messaging, storytelling, and recognition align with organizational branding.
Donor Cultivation & Stewardship
Manage a portfolio of 100–150 individual and major donors, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.
Conduct personalized outreach, donor meetings, and site visits to deepen engagement and inspire giving.
Design and execute annual giving campaigns, recurring giving programs, and direct mail/online appeals.
Partner with Board members and leadership volunteers to identify and engage new donor prospects.
Data, Reporting & Systems Management
Oversee donor tracking and reporting in eTapestry (or equivalent CRM), ensuring accurate gift recording, moves management, and analytics.
Develop regular progress reports, dashboards, and forecasts to measure return on investment and guide strategy.
Use data insights to refine cultivation and stewardship tactics, with a focus on lifetime donor value and retention.
Events & Donor Experiences
Collaborate with the Events and Communications teams to integrate donor cultivation into signature events (Gala, Golf Classic, Holiday Jam, Gathering of Friends, etc.).
Identify opportunities for exclusive donor engagement events, small gatherings, and personalized recognition experiences.
Supervise and mentor development staff, interns, or volunteers supporting donor engagement and research.
Serve as a visible ambassador for BGCPP, representing the organization at community and donor events.
Partner cross-departmentally to ensure program impact stories, metrics, and outcomes are leveraged effectively for fundraising.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in individual and major gift cultivation.
Proven ability to meet or exceed ambitious fundraising goals.
Strong relationship management and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience with donor databases (eTapestry, Raiser’s Edge, etc.) and CRM data analysis.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Passion for youth development and the mission of the Boys & Girls Club.
Performance Metrics
