Senior Manager, Sponsored Programs University of Miami – Full time, Staff, Pay grade A13.

Overview The Senior Manager, Sponsored Programs directs and oversees all administrative and financial aspects of the Sponsored Programs division at the assigned facilities. The role focuses on increasing sponsored funding levels and the output of funding proposals, maximizing the use and efficacy of existing research funding dollars, and developing policies and methods that further these goals.

Responsibilities

Identify potential donors or sources of funding and plan outreach strategies.

Participate in the development of grant applications and proposals.

Schedule and oversee planning for special events that publicize the organization and its programs to the community.

Train, mentor, and supervise sponsored programs staff members, and prepare performance reports.

Negotiate contractual provisions with potential partners.

Develop and provide reports or documentation needed to secure and maintain funding and grants.

Ensure that grants and contracts adhere to organizational standards.

Act as department expert and primary point of contact on funding issues and disputes.

Establish and continuously assess the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.

Ensure employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Direct all administrative and financial aspects of the Pre‑Sponsored Programs division.

Increase sponsored funding levels and improve the output and quality of funding proposals.

Develop and implement policies that enhance proposal competitiveness and compliance.

Create budgets for complex studies such as IIS, NCI, and ETC TN.

Track and follow-up on studies submitted in IBIS.

Maintain communication with ORA until CTAs are executed and studies are financially opened.

Ensure submissions are compliant, competitive, and aligned with sponsor and institutional requirements.

Work with external partners to finalize terms of contract negotiation.

Lead a team of pre‑award specialists and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Experience:

Minimum 7 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Attitudes:

Knowledge of business and management principles.

Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.

Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and/or supervise the work of others.

Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
