Director of Fleet Maintenance – San Diego, CA The Director of Fleet Maintenance provides technical expertise and strategic direction for two vehicle maintenance locations in San Diego County. This leadership position oversees the Maintenance department, managing labor, inventory, compliance, and vendor relations to ensure the safety, reliability, and cost efficiency of our vehicle fleet and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Support both maintenance facilities with technical and OEM support.

Ensure all maintenance team members are professionally trained on vehicles and components, including OEM troubleshooting software.

Develop and implement vehicle maintenance training program curriculum and coordinate in‑house and vendor‑led training.

Create and maintain zero‑emission vehicle maintenance policy and procedures.

Experience with field service/technical support, high‑voltage vehicle safety standards, and working with OEMs.

Develop technician development plans based on ASE certification programs and coordinate apprenticeship programs.

Monitor internal repair and vendor release bulletins, recalls and integrate updates into training.

Direct and support regional training centers.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (preferred).

10+ years of related experience; 3+ years supervisory experience.

Technical skills with transit, motor coach, and paratransit buses.

Presentation and engagement skills for team learning.

Zero‑emission vehicle/EVSE deployment experience and advanced onboard diagnostics.

Telematics and predictive analytics experience.

ASE Advanced Level Certifications (T or H series).

Knowledge of vehicle electronics, transmissions, engines, and bus components.

Proficiency with diagnostic equipment (INSITE, WTEC, Wabco etc.).

Understanding of regulations affecting maintenance operations.

Strong analytical and math skills; ability to research complex issues.

Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with passenger and airbrake endorsements preferred.

Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination, drug test, and DOT drug testing.

Working Conditions

Office and shop environment with moderate noise.

Stationary periods, computer use, occasional stair climbing and lifting up to 75 pounds.

Travel domestically as necessary.

Requires communication with peers, supervisors, OEMs, vendors, and external partners.

Benefits Competitive compensation: minimum $140,000 – maximum $170,000.

Vacation: minimum two (2) weeks

Sick days: 5 days

Holidays: 12 days (8 standard, 4 floating)
