General Purpose To manage and supervise all areas assigned by the Store Manager and to follow policies regarding customers, associates, and merchandising.

When the Store Manager is absent, the Assistant Manager leads the entire operation, ensuring that company standards and best practices are consistently met.

Essential Functions General Operating Requirements

Lead all company best practices and maximize productivity.

Assist in analyzing store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall performance.

Communicate variances to the Store Manager.

Ensure proper scheduling of associates to meet business objectives.

Ensure compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations.

Schedule and complete associate cleaning tasks throughout the store.

Accept special assignments as directed by leadership.

Administer payroll, including daily punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and reporting.

Organizational Development

Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing non‑exempt associates.

Ensure compliance with Ross personnel policies and procedures.

Assist with associate relations issues by communicating incidents to the Store Manager or District Manager.

Expense Control

Assist in managing and monitoring expenditures to stay within budget.

Control payroll hours and adjust to current business trends.

Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment

Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors.

Ensure all associates understand and can execute emergency operating procedures.

Maintain adherence to company safety policies and ensure the safety of associates and customers.

Assist in staffing and facilitating monthly safety meetings.

Customer Service

Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.

Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize associates using company recognition programs.

Execute customer service programs and merchandise presentation programs through associate training and supervision.

Supervise and coach retail associates in providing efficient and friendly service at registers, customer service desk, fitting rooms, and sales floor.

Personal And Store Brand

Represent and support the company brand at all times.

Maintain and model a professional appearance per the company dress code.

Manage the store to ensure a clean, neat, easy‑to‑shop environment.

Maintain a high standard of housekeeping with contracted maintenance personnel and associates.

Schedule and complete associate cleaning tasks throughout the store.

Merchandise Processing and In‑Store Marketing

Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards.

Ensure merchandise is presented and organized per company merchandising guidelines.

Urgently manage merchandise processing to the sales floor within the expected timeframe.

Loss Prevention

Assist in training associates on loss prevention awareness and store shortage goals.

Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions. Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.

Maintain compliance with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and lead store loss prevention activities.

Assist in leading the annual inventory process.

Monitor the out‑of‑stock policy to ensure proper administration.

Ensure the Public View Monitor (PVM) system is maintained properly.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

Two or more years of store or assistant store manager experience in a retail environment.

Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate, and communicate positively with associates at all levels.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, give direction, and follow through to completion.

Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.

Maintain high quality customer service.

Fluency in English.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail.

Physical Requirements / ADA

Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC.

Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.

Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.

Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.

Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.

Certain assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of all non‑exempt associates.
