Essential Job Functions Under the direction of the Administrative Judge, the Court Administrator manages and directs court operations and administrative support activities for the Circuit Court, establishes effective management procedures, and ensures the efficient, customer‑focused delivery of court services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as the liaison between the circuit court and County government, reviewing and responding to inquiries.

Prepare the County budget and present court needs before County Commissioners.

Justify new programs and submit grant proposals for approval.

Maintain courtroom functionality and ensure supply of necessary furnishings, technology, and equipment.

Communicate with County departments for fiscal, IT, procurement, facilities, and security needs.

Maintain courthouse facilities by troubleshooting, managing, and responding to building issues.

Oversee building renovations for the court.

Supervise court employees, provide corrective actions, and discuss serious/critical issues with the Administrative Judge and County HR representative.

Assist in hiring new staff, conducting interviews, and selecting candidates.

Act as ADA and EEO Coordinator.

Approve timesheets, leave, and education requests; recommend and implement policies for locally funded judiciary staff.

Liaise with Washington County Circuit Court, other Circuit courts, and the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC).

Attend local bench, executive team, and security team meetings; participate in judiciary committees, sub‑committees, and workgroups.

Collaborate with the Administrative Judge on court operations and case management.

Oversee grant programs, law library, help center, and interpreter program.

Collaborate with the Clerk of Court on case flow and the DCM plan; order supplies and generate purchase orders.

Work with the Judicial Sheriff to maintain security, including applying for and managing security grants.

Manage and update the Court's Continuity of Operations (COOP) and Emergency Plans; communicate alerts via Everbridge.

Troubleshoot basic IT issues (CourtSmart, Polycom, Zoom, computers, phones) and contact tech support as needed.

Liaise with the Jury Clerk, assist with juror issues (parking, accommodations), and process invoices for juror meals.

Consult with other Circuit courts on new rules, policies, and procedures.

Education

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience

Six (6) years of work experience, preferably in court operations, criminal justice, parole and probation, legal, or financial services, including three (3) years in a trial or appellate court in the United States.

Two (2) years of the above experience must include supervising or managing staff.

Preferred

Master's degree or Juris Doctor from an accredited college or university.

Enrollment in or completion of the ICM CCM/CCE or ICM Fellows program.

Additional court work experience can substitute for required education on a year‑for‑year basis for up to four (4) years.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Office information technology, including Microsoft Teams, Office, SharePoint, Zoom for Government, and Oracle.

Human resources law and management.

Court processes, legal terminology, and research methods.

Experience with the MDEC Case Management system.

Skill In

Oral and written communications, including sensitive negotiations with all levels of government, business, and community representatives.

Leadership, management, and supervision, including conflict management, employee coaching, staff development, and policy implementation.

Problem‑solving, decision making, interpretation of complex information, and statistical analysis.

Budget preparation, fiscal management, financial reporting, and grant program administration.

Interpersonal relations.

Ability To

Effectively manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, demonstrate strong organizational skills, develop and execute short‑ and long‑term plans, prioritize, and complete duties with minimal supervision.

Handle sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism.

Demonstrate a positive workplace attitude and build effective working relationships with judges, staff, attorneys, partner agencies, and the public.

Physical Requirements Sedentary work.

Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds and frequent light lifting; primarily seated with occasional walking and standing.
